Are you ready for one of the best 4x games ever made?
I tried to play Aurora but the UI is AIDS
>>378543613
Well the UI will get a minor upgrade in the rewrite.
>>378543730
Still made in Visual Basic?
Although the rewrite is mostly for under the hood stuff. performance stuff
>>378543775
no, the game is getting rewritten from scratch and it will be in C# now.
>C# Aurora is actually being done
And here I was thinking it would never be more than a dream.
>>378544310
Now we just gotta survive until its released.
Why is one mans solo programming hobby project surpass a product made by entire company witrh teams of professional programmers and designers?
>>378545816
Because your taste in games is so different from the average gamer that companies are rarely willing to take the risk of making a niche game that caters to your taste.
holy fuck
>>378546215
I doubt the average gamer would object to more choices, more details. why would he?
>>378546435
>why is there so much text wtf
>what do these words even mean
>where are the graphics
Let me put that in Todd Howard terms.
See that planet?
you can change its atmospheric composition to whatever you want. From a 0 atmosphere barren planet to a Venusian planet with enough atmospheric pressure to crush everything and its all greenhouse gas so that planet hot as fuck.
>>378547096
And it all just works.
>>378547096
Dont want to bother terraforming the planet? Then why not simply genetically engineer the population to survive in the low-G, low oxygen, low atmospheric pressure environment. its your choice.
Customize your ships to what you want them to be. Its all about choice in this design system.
how difficult is it to get into aurora if you have never played 4x games
>>378546765
>>why is there so much text wtf
Because more content requires more text.
>>what do these words even mean
Your choices.
>>where are the graphics
It runs on the strongest graphical processor in the universe.ImaginationLike that battleships game in that Haruhi episode.
>>378548102
Its hard eitherway. there is a learning curve and the UI takes getting used to. I dont think having 4x experience will help by much.
>>378548339
should i fucking do it? also is there a tutorial or perhaps a video guide of sorts
>>378548339
The point of
>why is there so much text
is saying this game is niche, and the average consumer is turned off by those things the other anon mentioned.
Found that Haruhi vid.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=487h6PDWdZw
>should i fucking do it?
The game is free for download, weights nothing and can run on the toastiest toasters, there is no reason why not to give it a try.
>also is there a tutorial or perhaps a video guide of sorts
No game tutorial, there is a wiki that can help you get started. and there are a few YouTube tutorial series and LP series you can watch. also you can jump in the gsg and 4x threads in /vg/ for tips
>>378548772
I know what he meant, but if the "average gamer" is turned off from agame simply because of stupid superficial stuff like that than he doesn't deserve good games.
I wish other developers would borrow some of the Aurora 4x ideas.
Like the ship customization. I fucking love how customizeable it is
And the resource system. Large resource variety, everything is mineable but resources are limited forcing you to always expand to get more.
And logistics. having to move resources from the mining world to the crafting worlds to feed the industry and enemy empies can disrupt those logistics by destroying or pirating the ships ferrying resource around.
These are good ideas, why wont anyone steal them?
OP it's okay to like autism simulators but let's not pretend that this is a game that could ever achieve mass appeal.
>>378551724
I'm pretty sure that if it had a proper, full time studio of programmers behind it and competent UI designers it could atleast get the same level of appeal as Sots and Distant Worlds and probably surpass them.
pls buy stellaris
>>378552309
Stellaris is a fucking disappointment.
then again, everything about post Victoria 2 Paradox is.
