Mass Effect 1's charm was that it felt like a new frontier for games was being breached, even weakly. Combat sucked, dialogue often sucked, lots of stupid sidequests, etc, yet it made the future of games look really interesting. As soon as you saw the games limits, you sobered up and were done with it. The sequels didn't push beyond the first and just refined and simplified what was there, and they were O.K. games overall (never played ME:A), though nothing felt like a strong step towards what ME1 made us hope for. Just a retread of the same formula which was mediocre in the first place. So, if they're not going to push for something better, let the franchise burn.

The writing was just above grade school. Maybe high school. The characters were bland and boring. The game clearly has political shit stuffed in their and doesn't even bother trying to make it make any sense. The gameplay sucked. It was just barely above Inquisitions terrible quests and I think the setting helped save them a lot on that one.

I was able to bust through the first two planets. I 100% them both and then I couldn't stand playing it anymore. The game is awful and you'd have to truly be trying not to pay any attention to it to claim otherwise.
