If people wanted ship combat I would understand. A bunch of that campaign was fought with warships. The boots on the ground part of it was thousands of Marines getting chewed up by Jap defenses until they could overwhelm the positions through sheer numbers which is terrible.

It's the last full scale war that employed fighting in an entire treasure chest of locations like deserts, forests, beaches, small idyllic villages and full on industrialized cities with conventional weapons and massive armies. WW2 is the prefect setting for vidya which is why it was beaten to death in the lead up to the modern warfare boom.
