A city is like a body pumping blood, you need to keep it balanced.

Have a major highway run through where your city is, then use double lane roads off that for heavy traffic, and finally single lane roads for the majority of your city.

Enjoy this 9000 hours in paint drawing

Your city is going to give you endless heartache. All your commercial, housing and industrial is going through the exact same part of a highway at a choke point. What you need is that highway to run from the entrace all the way to the right, then have off ramps and on ramps letting each type of traffic free flow from their district to the freeway.

Also I would highly recommend you just get the 'all 25 areas purchaseable' mod, so you can get a 25 tile area rather than the default 9.

Truthfully you can't do very much wrong. You can make a city that only has 1 street and uses a countryside road as the only way to enter the city. It will be a constantly blocked city that takes 4 months to enter or exit and there will be like 800 people on each bus station, until 90% of your population instantly dies waiting, which creates a shitload of ambulances that make the traffic jams worse. But in the end, it will be profitable over time anyway.

Two ways to build cities.

European.
>cover the map in farms wherever they will go. Or at least imagine them.

I swear I remember there being a mod somewhere that forced all vehicles on roads to use all lanes of a road by having each vehicle look ahead X road lengths and check the "fullness" of each lane, then moving to the least "full" lane; and they'd also move into the turning lanes much earlier and stay in them to turn.
It said something about it being very CPU intensive (which would make sense if it's doing constant calculations for each vehicle), but sounds like it would make vehicles and traffic pretty much exactly like it works IRL.

You gotta have the dum dums anon.

If you do put education in make sure it stays in your village areas and doesn't extend out to the farms. Also farms get pretty much zero crime and fires so you don't need to worry about raising those values. Actually it's best not to raise land value at all around farms because it might make them close. You just want the resources no need to make things fancy.
