After all these years was anything redeemable about dragon age 2. I though Varris was okay and the quest when you go into the mansion when he's telling the story was okay but thats really the only decent parts I can remember.

The best thing in DA2 is probably having melee move towards enemies during the startup of their swing/skill. In DA, it's basically impossible for melee to hit an enemy that won't stop moving, and the AI is designed to run away when threatened. DA2 has a lot of general gameplay improvements that were really nice, but most of it is trashed by changing battles to waves of low-health enemies.

There's plenty of things redeemable about DA2. It still had the feeling of Dragon Age 2, for starters, with the gritty feeling, the camera angles in cutscenes and stuff. While it is true that it was disastruous at release, that it has awful dlc, that it's fucked and trunkated, that the story goes full retard and that it was never fixed, it still has some good ideas, some interesting and some interesting characters. In my opinion, it's better than Dragon Age Inquisition. I've finished DA2 like three times while I struggled to finish Inquisition the first and only time I played it. I even played DAO > DA2 and DAI back to back when DAI came out to get a save file (Only to find out that I needed to use the stupid shit dragon keep to get the choices I wanted).

The Qunari plotline was great and the main premise of the game, it being about the story of a destitute refugee who works his way to prosperity but loses some things because of the violent world he lives in was great and refreshing.

What went right:

DA:O: characters, quest design, dialogue, roleplaying freedom, camp comfy factor
DA2: (half) the companions, setting, meredith mommy gf, arishok, smaller scale plot that i liked
DA:I: main quests, great areas (but ubisoft-ed), companions and advisors, alt-right irrefutable husbando villain (but locked in DLC instead of being in the main story), lore dump on dwarves and elves

I won't talk about what went wrong because that's clear to everyone

What good parts? It failed at everything it tried to do. It failed at making party members and fapbait, it failed at telling a story because the few main quests that existed had no overarching storyline or leadup since they fell for the "open ended" mmo garbage, it failed at having a compelling villain or a compelling religion themed story, it failed at having good combat and it failed at having good graphics.
