Although I concur that Intel has some very nice CPUs, they can fuck right off due to their shady industry schemes and how it fucked AMD.
>>
>>378511076
Why would I need these meme CPUs that are probably going to cost close to a thousand if I can run TW Warhammer (TW is one of the most CPU intensive series of games out there) perfectly fine on a R5 1600 that costs $200?
>>
>>378511076
Now i feel good about pushing my upgrade till later this year.
>>
>>378511252
If AMDs products in the last 6-8 years weren't mediocre they wouldn't have had issues with intel's douchebaggery.

Not defending intel, but this is how business works nowadays.

>>
>>378512007
Yeah and that's great.

Hope whatever they produce next is just as good or better so intel get forced to actually develop some better shit than what they do currently.

>If AMDs products in the last 6-8 years weren't mediocre they wouldn't have had issues with intel's douchebaggery.

They were never mediocre, only dumb fucks like you believe that shit because it's all you hear on /v/ so you just believed it like another sheep.
>>
>>378511839
That fair, I guess. I just meant that industry shenanigans are off putting me as a customer, since competition is what beneficial for me. But I actually liked Ryzen, though.

Is this bizarro /v/
>>
>>378512212
They were decent in their own right but compared to anything Nvidia put out they were completely mediocre. Face it anon AMD has always been the budget option. Hopefully that'll change.
>>
>>378512212
Yes, they were, stop being contrarian.

If AMD has been dishing out good products, then intel couldn't have gotten away with giving 2-3-5% power increase per generation.

Just look at Ryzen, the first really good product they've had in a long time.

Intel has been reacting ever since Ryzen launched.

This is how you know someone made a good product - when their competition actually starts doing smtn rather than just sit back and reheat some old CPUs.

Instead of adding a billion dumb cores why not improve cores so you don't need 19. Make 1 core as good as 19 its getting to the point where instead of like building a better car engine they're just Mad Max stacking 19 engines on top of eachother in some autistic shit.

Intel collided with OEMs way back in the day to push AMDs superior CPUs out of the OEM market. That's why everything had a fucking Pentium in it growing up. AMD eventually won their lawsuit against Intel for that but the damage was done in the minds of the average consumer. Following was several years of mismanagement causing a massive bleed of quality engineers and we are only just now seeing AMD get itself back on track.

There's only so far you can shrink transistors before the size gets in the way of reliable function, and furthermore, that sort of R&D is expensive as fuck. Makes a lot more sense to just add more cores in the meantime and let coders learn to juggle them.

What? Nvidia drivers have been bad since the 600 series.

I got fucked right over by paying 400 bucks for a card which is now obsolete as fuck.

Got Ryzen as a main upgrade a while back together with a RX 470 which performs pretty fucking good. Really surprised me especially for a 175 EU card.

Fuck these fucking Jews, this is why we NEED Ryzen and especially Ryzen 2 to put AMD back on top. Until they shift the product stack down, no one should be expected to put up with Intel's bullshit. I can't fucking believe this. Core/thread-count-per-dollar should have been bumped up a couple of years ago at this point, but AMD was too busy sucking monkey shit at making CPUs, so they got away with it. I didn't overclock it as hard as you but GTAV is a lot smoother.
I also notice less "microstutter" across lots of games, which is a common complaint with Intel's CPUs.
Ask yourself if your CPU is actually bottlnecking you yet and then decide, you might be better waiting for Zen 2 if not.

Also multitasking is great, I was idling for GTAV funbux while playing Witcher 3 and had my browser open, didn't even use 50%.

AMD's products in the past 6-8 years were mediocre BECAUSE of Intel's kikery, dumb kid. They literally bribed OEMs to use their CPUs over AMD's, which cost AMD billions that would have been used for R&D. Intel were caught out and fined for it, but the damage had already been done.

Old office i5s are even cheaper. Buying new is a meme unless you're really stupid and buy a faulty processor without testing it or you have more money than brains.

Get more ram. I was getting microstutter on an i5 build with 8gb ram and I was told it was because 4 cores aren't good enough anymore. I called bullshit and decided to get more ram and it fixed my problems straight away. Apparently when you hit over ~70% ram usage Windows does some memory management and moves a lot of background apps into the page file on the hdd which causes problems when a game is trying to quickly load in assets and results in microstutter. The increased ram made my gta 5 go from some intense stutterfest to smooth sailing.

I just added 2 extra 4gb sticks to my current 2x4gb configuration. I'm not exaggerating when I say the difference was massive. I couldn't play gta 5 at all like it would be really stuttery when driving through the towns and I though it was the cpu maxing out like people said but I did some testing and found that it was linked the hdd hitting 100%. I thought that my hard drive might be too slow or it was just straight up dying.

https://steamcommunity.com/app/271590/discussions/0/611703999968913896/

Getting more ram fixed the issue for me as Windows wasn't fucking with my hdd when I was playing games because I had enough ram to keep background apps in memory. I don't know if it will fix your issue too but it's always with a try over spending hundreds on a new processor.

>>378534103
That's right. We are limited by the speed of light, and the pathways that particles travel.

The new frontier is faster-than-light quantum computation, needing no transfer of particles.

But that's only been discovered in the last few years, so we'll likely never see it ourselves.

My reasoning is that quantum computing and communication also enables something that the world governments absolutely cannot stand for, which is complete privacy of communication and data.

With this new quantum communication method, no particles are transferred between the two communication points, which means the data cannot be intercepted and monitored.

The world powers will never ever let the masses have that ability.

literally all modern games run on a dual core pentium. it's a question of need and want. you only 'need' 2 cores to run a game at 1080p60 but you'd 'want' 4 core cpu to allow games to spread their workloads over more cores and prevent stuttering and stuff.
>>
>>378533546
CPUs aren't just for gaming. I can bottleneck a 6700k running a couple channels of audio with a few intensive plugins in daw.
>>
>>378533647
what about the prices?
You can get Skylake-X 8 core 350$ cheaper and 10 core 500$ cheaper than before. 6 for arond 400$ and 4 core for 219$
If you trying to cheap out go AMD but don't complain like a pussy when nothing works and the performance lacks. Also AMD has no AVX-512. Basicly making their CPUs useless trash just like their entire AM4 socket.
I never buy AMD simply because they can't even into emulation dog shit CPUs and their GPUs are no different. Overclocking issues left and right bios issues without any ending, memory issues. Just no.
After 7950 I looked never back and only bought Intel/Nvidia, no issues ever and can play all games anyone who tells you otherwise should kill themselves. I experienced this myself and never touch any AMD product ever again.

>inb4 you start sperging out about threadripper which isn't for the average consumer

>>378514556
It depends what you plan on doing. AMD tends to have more cores while Intel has less but stronger cores. Having more cores doesn't mean anything if the programs you plan on running aren't optimized to use said extra cores. Unless you plan on having a bunch of programs running at once (VMs or something), more cores doesn't mean much. If games are only optimized to run on core or two then Intel processors will do better.
>>
>>378537959
AMD didn't have the R&D budget to produce more competitive products due to Intel's illegal abuse of their effective monopoly.
Taking them to court did eventually produce a settlement but the time they lost meant that even today AMD hasn't fully recovered.

We're currently seeing a repeat of this same kind of behavior from Microsoft. Their attempt to lock the market to the Windows Store with 10 S might very well produce a decision in Valve's favor, but that could come 5+ years from now when the market is effectively locked in to Microsoft even tighter than they are today.

I'm glad Intels 4 cores still destroy anything AMD in gaming and this won't change with Skylake-X but leave a bigger gap.

If they went to the businesses that supplied products to the Mom and Pop and threatened them that they would no longer carry their products if they didn't give Walmart a preferential price, or sold to other retailers at all that would be illegal.

That's exactly what Intel did, they went to OEMs and threatened them that if they sold systems with AMD hardware Intel would punish them with higher prices or prevent them from getting chips at all.
Microsoft did the same thing in the 90s to kill the few other alternative commercial OSes around threatening Sony that if they shipped systems with the technologically superior BeOS they would no longer be able to get Windows at a competitive price.

Microsoft is actually in the process of doing the same thing today threatening OEMs who ship GNU/Linux with bills for licensing patents of questionable enforceability unless they pay Microsoft a fee higher than the licensing cost of Windows which keeps it locked into the server, high end developer market, and the extreme low end where there's no money for Microsoft to squeeze out.
They're apparently planning to step up this campaign with Windows 10 S shifting the remaining costs of Windows licensing from OEMs to end users who will be forced to buy software from the Windows Store, use Edge and Bing, and pay a $50 fee if they want to use their computer as a computer something that is free with the competing ChromeOS (which as a GNU/Linux distro is easy to make run any arbitrary software).

The world powers were also the ones whom created that antique calculator in the first place, and the world-wide network for said calculators. But eventually corporations desired this technology and they eventually got it; I have little doubt that the current powers that be would not allow their corporate overlords to get access to quantum communications.

But to really get it to the masses would require a certain brand of capitalism and market circumstances to force this technology to become cheaper and more robust. Remember that the Personal Computer was developed as transistors became smaller and more reliable in response to demand for the greater automation needed for consumer end-users.

intel could sell their processors with a side of beef and i'd still not give a shit, they change socket every fucking week and overclocking is always something you have to pay extra for both in processors and in boards.

amd might be slower but they're always more fun to mess around with and their sockets are usually compatible with the previous ones.
