i don't hate FO4 honestly, but the others are right, you don't really make builds in it

just pick a few weapons to use and take the singular perk that corresponds to them

Fallout 4's character progression system really doesn't allow for defined builds in the same sense that a traditional RPG does. The emphasis on combat "skills" and the lack of passive/utility abilities really dampens any possible discussion of the topic. Dungeons/encounters are designed such that you will need to clear them via combat, ensuring that nearly every character invests in damage-boosting perks. "Build" homogeneity is a huge issue in the game. Even my supposed thief-type character wound up speccing into basically full combat by end-game given how few stealth segments there are and how little there is to steal.

yes, of course stealth archers are viable. they're objectively the strongest in any game made by /ourguy/ Todd. add to that the smooth talker role and you'll be unstoppable

I thought that was really fucking weird

In the fallout games I played there's not a whole lot you can do to change your special after character creation but in this game you can just get all 10s if you want just by leveling up, it kinda kills the whole concept.

Thing is that after a while the whole stealth sniper thing becomes extremely dull.
Its the easy approach of course but you can have more fun with melee or heavy weapons.

At the same time.. Why would anyone want to grind to level 100 and something just to do that. I normally hit 50 on a specialised character and by that time would have finished main story plus a ton of side quests.

'grinding' in fallout 4 is effortless. you get xp for everything. i gained 14 levels just fucking around in build mode in sanctuary at the start of the game.

When you get a railgun with double damage to enemies with full health the sneak damage just breaks the game.

Melee is pretty fun, the skills for melees are pretty decent. Of course its not perfect but we are talking about the laziest title made by Beth...

Personally I took actives skills, like the perks for modding weapons/armor, creating grenades and chems, also the caps fan for building, also lock picking and hacking
I started as a melee guy but the new only skill useful for it is the first one
