Yeah. Mario 3 just feels like a huge quest with all the different worlds, paths, secrets, hard to find items and such. It's also really fun marathoning it on 2 player from start to finish.

3's a more well rounded game than 2 or 1 though making it a better overall game. Sure 2 and 1 have certain things that I prefer over 3 but they're pretty situational, I can enjoy 3 literally whenever.

The story took a nosedive and only served pointless and frankly ridiculous elaboration, the gameplay itself was too easy with the additional elements including the freeaim from 2, with enough room that being spotted is far more difficult. Good atmosphere and soundtrack, though. I feel like MGS really loses a lot of impact without the hyper-modern setting of the other games.

I thought the story stayed pretty consistent throughout and that it wasn't bloated with elaboration like the later games were, but that's just my opinion Desu.

Gameplay without sounding like an elitist cunt was only as difficult as you wanted it to be; the tranq cheapened things, sure, but it depended on your playstyle. The new environment too added lots of new gameplay elements that I think keep it fresher on subsequent playthroughs though.
