The developers and publishers have no fucking clue on what makes a game good, and more often than not, they copy all the bad parts of a game, while completely ignoring the good ones.
And sometimes they take a mechanic that works in the particular game, but it's awful when out of context as well.

And the ball of mistakes accumulated and we have 40+ years of mistakes being applied like features in almost all games.
