The whole reason NRS games never perform well at a competitive level is because of how fucking easy they are. The skill difference between an average player and a pro player is very little when compared to SF or even Marvel. NRS games are so unrewarding to get good at that no one wants to bother. You know what really sucks? That Guilty Gear is the best alternative.
That game is full of bullshit and braindead flow-charts. There are a billion mechanics to give you the illusion you could do something about it, but in the end it's a kitchensink with little reason.
It actually has a lot of the flaws SFV has(after all the SFV designer is a GG player), but unlike SFV, where that shit starts at super bronze already, the BS is not that easy to do and different for most characters.

Atleast the buttons and gameplay feels good in GG and there is character variety. I wish there was a real SF alternative. Not gonna happen though. As soon as someone makes a fighting game, they try to be different by being just another airdasher.

There's not really any "bad" characters in GG. There are weaker ones, but the overall balance is fairly tight knit. As long as a character's playstyle clicks for you, go for it.
