everyone recommends 4 because its the easiest to not fuck up party composition.

Before making a team, you should look at all the skills and focus on certain builds. Making jack of trades is really shit compared to focused builds. Sometimes just putting one skill point in a skill is good enough depending on what it does.

In the end of the day, you dont have to stress too much since you can "rest" chatacters which is losing 2 levels and all skills points reset so you can reallocate when needed.

First time I fought last boss I was underleveled as fuck and have no slightest idea what setup would be useful. It was an epic 1+ hour long battle when characters died and got revived time after time, party constantly being one the verge of complete wipe out, just to hit her a few times in between. Well Atlus did publish it overseas so yeah, they can kind of get away with that reference seeing as how they localized it.

Atlus is also responsible for Sticky White Stuff. They knew exactly what the fuck they were doing with that one. (can't remember but I think the sticky white stuff thing gets referenced in Dark Souls 2 as one of the words you can place in messages, and also comes back as a usable item but with a less suggestive and lore friendly name)
