As much as I hate to reference it, there was a series a few years back which had all the Yogscast members playing on some modded to fuck server, I only cared for Sips cause his streams are good, but there were about 7-8 different teams of people playing on the server all doing different things

The main 2 autists were making an automated factory for making JAFFAS XD
There was some railway network shit that one group was making
Main Autists #1s GF was making some sort of animal sactuary/nature shit w/ some scottish guy
Some DnD tier guy was doing shit with magic and alchemical conversions etc.

It was a real clusterfuck of people and mods, but thats what you need to make it enjoyable past the first 10minutes of the base game

Then a year later they came back with 1gb of updates/new content (for a 800mb game) and just kept adding more and more shit to the game

You really can't do that much in Minecraft. Considering the game is first person and ill-adjusted for any sort of action or combat, pretty much the only good mods involve the mining and the crafting.

Terraria still has far better building, combat, movement, wiring, music, and aesthetics. I struggle to think of one thing Minecraft does better besides allowing you to build in an another dimension.

No, I'm serious. Building in Terraria is far superior. Where in Minecraft you have to make everything absurdly big to get any ounce of detail, in Terraria you can make incredibly aesthetic buildings in a fraction of the time, and they still look better.

Minecraft2 should basically be just minecraft with the smallest default cube being 1/8 of the current in minecraft

The best analogy for Minecraft and Terraria is that Minecraft is a huge bucket of Lego bricks, whereas Terraria is Bionicles. Not as impressive as a building, but far more impressive in function.

There doesn't really need to ever be a Minecraft 2. The story is non-existent, the mods already make the game look better than anything that could be made official, and they could just update Minecraft or add DLC, because Micro$oft.

All that would really come from a Minecraft 2 is better optimization, better worldgen, and better modding and multiplayer support.

I pick it up every few months for a week or two. It's still pretty comfy, but I wind up doing the same shit every time, and then I quit.

I have a neato playlist set up just for this that's mostly just minecraft and Skyrim music, with a bunch of blank tracks thrown in. It enhances the comf.

Minecraft is an alright game.

The reason /v/ dislikes it, is because Notch made promises about the game, but then never added them. Minecraft couldn't decide what kind of game to be, so it ended up going every direction in an half-assed way.

There isn't enough variety to be great building game, although they've added quite some new options in the past few updates (which come at a snail's pace)
The combat sucks (I haven't played the recent combat update tho)
The survival sucks even more thanks to how shoddily done hunger is
The exploration is meh

It's a game that had it's charm when it came out, but never lived up to the expectations.
It can still be fun, but it makes me sad to think about what could have been. If it was left in someone else's hands, it could've been a lot better.
Take, for example, the old Aether mod. It had better exploration, bosses, block variety and combat (thanks to the addition of new types of items) than the base game ever will. Shame it hasn't been updated in a long time as far as I know.

It's a good platform, but it never really lived up anywhere close to it's full potential. The core game was basically completely lazy and nearly abandoned not long after it was concieved. Mods have been doing their darn-best to actually capitalize on the potential of the platform, but mods have always been and had inherent limitations: not only technical, but as a community that will always have difficulty pulling together and organizing itself.

As a result, Minecraft feels really, really sour: as one of the most interesting platforms made in the industry, that never seemed to get past prototyping phase.

Minecraft needed developers like the people behind Factorio: people who actually obsessively optimize, who iterate on their work, who test like crazy. With that, it could have seriously been one of the best games ever.

As it stands... it's a promise that can be half-fulfilled if you can fucking stomache dealing with the mods. Otherwise, it has no substance. Just idea that isn't realized.

I bought Minecraft when I was 15 or so back in the alpha days of 09. It was around $9 at the time.

I forgot about it throughout the years of High School. I went back later on and the hunger meter alone made me fucking leave. It was pretty comfortable at first.

Minecraft is a great game, used to play it all the time.
