The biggest difference between the West and Japan's attitude to themes such as cross-dressing is that the latter uses it entirely for comedy. All you need to do is tune in to Japanese TV and you'll see a fat man dressed in drag acting like a klutz. Despite showing these themes, the LGBT community is making little headway in the country. The SJWs try to portray gays and queers as these people who have a genetic predisposition, and that one should empathize with them, just like any other human. This is actually more healthy, because it draws a distinct line between straight people and queer people. You only have to search your feeling to know where you fall in.

Japan's portrayal is far more damaging, because they show being queer as a funny fetish. You can just pick up queer behavior as a fetish, and everyone laughs about it, as you're sucking their cocks in a maid costume. Crossdressing in BOTW had *heavy* sexual implications. It was meant to give you the idea that Link is a submissive male, taken by these hyper masculine Gerudo women. All in fun and games. Crossdressing is ok!
