The paired weapons scattered around in 3 show that the team is capable of bringing the idea forward, especially with the ringed city bringing out those dastardly greatswords with a totally unique moveset from start to finish.
Covenants in 3 also leave a bad taste in my mouth at how much nothing they give you. Darklurker being a covenant reward and the Covenant of Champions were great ideas and 3 could have allowed more incentives to level your covenants up.

That's a step back in my opinion. Powerstancing huge weapons like an anime protagonist was the worst part of the powerstance mechanic, and they decided to make a weapon based solely on it.

They don't GIVE you much, but most of them are fun to participate in. Like Wolves or Faithful, the rewards are pretty much nothing, but the actual dick-ass PvP is great.

Can't really agree. The darkdivers or how are they called are barely a covenant at all, just a short series of unlockable locations for you to clear, functionally no different at all from just a hidden location for you to discover. Speedracer Gandalf was a fun NPC though.
The covenant of champions, like many things in DaS2 was a neat idea that was abysmally implemented. Nevermind that its placement and ambigious description made it almost a beginners trap. It could've been so much more.

But I think we can both agree than all those covenants are still better than the literal nothings we got in Bloodborne. The only good thing it had was the vilebloods/executioners rivalry, and that was basically a gimmick.
