Ninja was a DPS with the ability to null damage that targeted it.
This let it perform as a tank, if the NIN was decent or better at keeping Utsusemi up... even after the AoE tanking-nerf

However, if it ever dropped, then that NIN is going down.

I think FFXIV is shitty, gameplay-wise, but I wouldn't mind it's popularity so much if it's entire aesthetic identity wasn't "FFXI but slightly worse." It's because of that it feels it's more overwriting XI than just being a seperate thing.

That was a big problem. 1.0 was something of a continuation, and it was improving as the team had time to impliment the things the original dev had intended.

All of that was scrapped to make a WoW-style themepark, gear treadmill MMO.

I would argue that FFXIV doesn't have an aesthetic identity. It has aesthetic schizophrenia. It wants to be WoW/Tera/etc with overdesigned, glowing armor, but also occasionally has decent armor designs.

Most of the lower level armor looks good. The problem is once you hit the level cap. Everything from 50 on pretty much looks like shit and while you can always use the vanity system for your own character, you can't make everyone else stop looking like a clusterfuck.

I made me sad I was always delegated as healer or back up healer when I was smn in ffxi and then in FFXIV they are main healers with DoT...I was so pissed. I thought they'd make smn cooler. ALso their only real summon is carbuncle. I wanted shit like this again.

That's because everything up through darklight was designed by the original team.

There's also decent armor through the HW leveling, so there will probably be decent sets with the new xpac's leveling line.

It's kind of a Catch 22. Old-school FFXI requires a large number of players in order to function, which is why the official servers changed to begin with.
