Basically, when Geralt was split with Yen (pre-book), she seduces him and is always trying to stay close afterwards. She does this because she's enthralled by the idea of a loving, emotional, "real" relationship since all of hers are shit and she was jealous of Yen.

When he gets amnesia at the start of TW1, she jumps at the opportunity with Yen out of the way to say nothing about Yen and, yes, basically position herself to make Geralt only think about her. Many of her dialogue lines are literally things Yen says from the book so it's possible Triss is playing it up even more. It's not until TW2 that she reveals anything and by then they've been together for some time.

However, you could also argue that some of her personality in TW1 was the devs trying to stay "noncanonical" and thus Triss is just an amalgam of Yen/Philippa because she's a stand-in for all the others as the devs try to tell a similar story. That said, the polish game journal talks about Geralt thinking Triss was the sorc from his past so it's clear she's trying shit.

In the book "Lady of the lake" Geralt seemed to have stronger feelings towards Fringilla than Triss.

I really like that part. By that time in the story (of books and games), Triss clearly has some genuine care for Geralt and Ciri - she's not trying to trick you there with her offer of sacrifice. Originally you were supposed to choose where to begin, but they probably soft-forced Velen as the starting area because the crones/baron questline serves as a good hook.
As soon as you spawn in Velen you can actually go straight to Skellige or Novigrad and do them first, a lot of the game's dialogue changes, especially with regards to the Uma stuff.
One example is if Triss kills Menge and you've done Skellige first, Geralt can ask Triss to resurrect him, citing Yennefer's use of necromancy on Skjall. Triss says she won't stoop that low.

I don't like how the game forces TRISS OR YEN on you so hard.

Here's the thing; Yen is on her way out.

Geralt and Yen had been doing whatever it is they'd been doing for fucking long-ass time by the time Witcher 3 rolls around, and you can tell their relationship has cooled down significantly.
They're clearly falling out of love and have become a habit by the events of W3. Their best days are long behind them.

Triss legitimately cares for Gerry, and seems to care about their future in a way that Yen simply doesn't.

Anyone who picks Yen only does so because they're "Supposed" to be together. Their relationship is purely compulsory.

Anyone who picks Triss does so because they actually *want* to be together and try to set up their futures. Which isn't the same thing as being SOULMATES or TRUE LOVE or whatever, Triss will probably one day leave too, just because that's how relationships work.
They're not supposed to last forever, you're supposed to enjoy them while you can and learn to be honest with yourself when the spark has died.

I don't agree. Their relationship hit a high point after they came together with Ciri. After that point, they've been separated by the plot for almost the entire time until their reunion at Vilgefortz (where they were willing to die together) and then again in TW3 after amnesia. Their relationship is unstable due to the amnesia/Triss stuff, but they're closer to their best days than their worst by far, and are looking for a chance to settle down and finally live them.

The short stories were the best part of the whole saga. The author should have stopped with them, I couldn't believe that cdpr did a better job with the world and characters than the author did. Its probably the only case where an adapted work outshines the books its based on.
