The biggest problem with /v/ is lack of moderation on /vg/ which has allowed its cancer to fester and spread back to /v/ in two ways:

The fairest way to prevent spam (besides blocking phoneposting altogether) would be to implement a 5-minute screening period before new threads become visible.

Right now, the /pol/ shit is bad, especially fueled by the whole fucking Far Cry 5 thing (its really taking less and less to throw this board into meltdown, isn't it?) but really, the problem is more systematic and can't be solved easily: in fact I suspect that it can't be solved at all anymore.

It's the simple fact that most people who come and post here are either insane idiots, or mentally ill. It's just that. Most people here - at least most active posters are insecure idiots who don't care about games: they care about little ego wars, about memes and culture, and most of all: about feeling righteously angry and something.

One third of this board are basically just tumblrinas from the worst era of Tumblr, except in reverse. Desperately searching ever smallest aspect of the industry for potentially political and ideological angle and then screaming bloody murder and demanding blood.

Second third is pure shitposters: people who literally come here and spend hundreds of hours to mildly annoy other people. Literally: pure petty malevolence.

The last third is just really, really dumb, and really, really proud of their opinions and will never cease to start insulting anyone who could ever question them.

Neither of these groups care about gaming, really.

Plus, it's becoming increasingly obvious that the demography is changing, and that the Halo generation not only has the posting majority: they are now starting to realize that and their beliefs and taste is becoming acceptable. So that does not really help either.

This board is lost, I'm afraid. It's not some minor concrete issues: it's the actual mass, the bulk of the users that are the problem.
