Do you go through the effort of making a beast race just because you can, or do you consider the addition from a perspective of the gameplay or appearance options that come with it, and the anticipated audience that it would bring in? You don't dedicate a portion of a game's development to shoe-in another playable race unless there's a purpose to it. And I guarantee you that there are some - perhaps seldom - developer who are mindful of the cesspool communities out there online which they thought twice about attracting.

Most fantasy authors agree that their work dramatically improves when they remove the 'fantasy races' in exchange for actual unique cultural development with humans.

Its either

A) Devs who think "lol people can't relate to anything that doesn't look humanoid" and thus don't even make an effort to make anything other than colored humans

B) Devs who are full blown furfags and can't get out of the mindset that a beast race should appeal solely to people with that fetish

C) Devs who actually make an interesting beast race with zero fetish influences but forget that a game needs good gameplay

The problem isn't beast characters, it's not making them appealing, and it's their armor looking terrible.
Create a beast race that armor looks good on and has a decent starting zone and decent racials and you'll see people play them.

Normies will always gravitate towards HUMAN though.
