Well now when I notice that there's not enough people to avoid a 1v1v1 I change lobbies, as fun as it was to keep track, I'd rather avoid those.

I'm so torn on the controls. On one hand, the motion controls are really satisfying to pull off and it's pretty fun. On the other, I feel like I can move so much easier and cleanly with stick controls as well as where I direct my punches.

I got bored last testpunch when half my wins were perfects, the only round I last was on that stair level where it's impossible to prevent the Ninjara jump grab spam (he's too high in the air, so you can't actually punch his grab).

Ninjaras so far seem like one-trick ponies. They spam teleport and grab so much, that they freak out whenever they can't get it to work. More stages and more arms means a lot more variety and freshness, if that's what your problem is. Stages matter immensely in this game and we've only got to use 3 of them, and every set of arms feels very unique. 1v1 will be a lot of fun in the full game, not sure about the other modes.

It'll depend on the quality of players you face. I imagine it'll get boring pretty fast if you get good while the people you face suck. Or very frustrating if you're matched up with really good people all the time. This is part of the fight genre problem in that the intimate 1v1 matches don't provide that much variety if there's too much disparity.

This is one reason why I think ARMS will be received differently from Splatoon. In Splatoon, the key feature of the game, painting turf, allows you to avoid the main feature of almost all other team based shooters: kill the opponents. Sure, you'll eventually be put into situations where it'll be better for you to kill in Splatoon, but covering turf with your ink always stays a priority.

In ARMS, that fundamental design is still there. Attack the other player and defeat them. Volley ball and some of the other modes as a twist on it, but it's basically the same.

So, ARMS will really depend on how match making works and how much variety and depth players get outta those matches with each other.

Anyone having some connection issues? I set up a static IP for my switch but I keep getting DNS errors. At first I thought it was just shitty nintendo streamers but a lot of people are getting 100+ point streaks which means they aren't dropping lobbies. Without it the number of people in ranked who unironically have absolutely no clue as to what they're doing, would be on a completely different level compared to with gating off ranked from absolute beginners like this.
And having tons of people with 0 (zero) clues as to how to play the game, only serves to give free points to whoever are matched with them. Of course, they'll still only give free points to other beginners since they'll don't gain points or advance themselves. But that still pushes a whole tier of people towards a level that's naturally above them at their actually current level.

Since this is all mostly relevant on the lower tiers, it's ultimately not that important. But sorting out the tiers from the get go by making sure that people who play have to at the very least know the bare minimum of the absolute basics of the basics before they play. Is still good design.
