How different is DS2 from DS3? I skipped 2 due to it being a pile of ass at launch but heard it has since been fixed to "good enough" status.

None, unless you want to just party everyone. Das2 pvp is as unbalanced as any souls game. It just doesn't feel that way because there's so much that's fucking broken.
