Fantastic genre in theory, but in reality it's so filled with shitty tropes and poor fiction that it's nearly impossible to find anything worth-while in theory.

This term is way too broad actually. It spans from hard-sci-fi to pure space opera and the differences between different levels are usually massive.
I do love hard sci-fi, and an occasional good space-opera like Homeworld is welcome too. But then you have "sci-fi" shit like Halo or GoW that is absolute garbage.

It's just a stupid and needless term for soft-sci-fi, really. Most of it is usually bad, because it inexpertly mashes speculative and mythological perceptions, defeating the point and beauty of all of it.
Rarely in work (WH40K is actually an interesting setting, for an example), but honestly, in that case it really is just fantasy that happens to be not set in past era.

Personally, if I can chose, I'd chose in order:

I personally enjoy hard science fiction with small amounts of "magic" stuff that can't be explained, to keep things interesting. Full-on fantasy is too handwave-y and inconsistent with it's magic stuff, and too full of cliches and derivatives.

i like the idea of mecha but i dislike all the media it is in. seems like a requirement for games to control bad while in a mecha, i don't get the appeal of "feeling like you are in a giant robot". i also don't really like any mecha anime. nothing against it but there are just better genres entirely. mecha shit always tries to tell a serious story which too isn't very interesting at all because it has an anime artstyle, keep that shit to comedy

Another Century's Episode games are the closest you'll get. 2 and 3 play closest to ZoE, 1 is a lot slower, R has more quicktime shit than actual gameplay, Portable is kind of okay I guess.

They're all in moonrunes so that's a bit of a problem, but the menus are easy enough to figure out via trial and error, and they're crossover games so if you're familiar with the subject material you won't lose out on most of the plot either.

It's an anime quite literally about a hikki komori, who occasionally creates delusions about evil conspiracy being entirely responsible for his pathetic state. So yeah.

It's not great though. It has amazing moments, amazing characters, pretty interesting premise, but the actual quality is so god damn inconsistent it's basically killing the show. If they cleaned the shit up, made the main pair a little more interesting (EVERY side character in that show is more interesting than the main two heroes), removed some of the pointless fucking fluff and cleaned up the ending, it could have been the best anime I've ever seen.

As it stands, it's one of the biggest wasted opportunities I've ever seen.

I know that. The problem with this is that it makes no sense. Because earlier it was established that human AT field does not interact with physical world, unlike the Angel one. Hence it makes no sense that human body dissolves when the AT field is not present. Either AT field is what keeps our body from dissolving into prime constituents: in which case we should immediately dissolve as soon as we DIE, or our bodies are purely physical and AT field only ties our consciousness to it: in which case the consciousness departing the body and the AT field transforming should not affect the body consistency.

It's just one of many small self-contradictions and plot-holes the show indulges for sake of spectacle, instead of being entirely consistent. I mean: I don't mind, it's a minor detail with no plot relevance, but still.
