After years of playing NV, I've started Fallout 2 literally this week. I'm doing the Gecko reactor quest atm.
Is it just me, or is this game really fucking hard for the first time? I enjoy the challenge, but still, I hope it gets easier later.
Fucked up a little, because my character is a frail, charismatic, Mengele-like evil scientist, who specializes in energy weapons... except I'm yet to find an energy weapon. I constantly get my ass kicked in random encounters, I'm always low on money and bullets, I'm irradiated and don't have money for Radaway (and for some fucking reason, can't steal it from the Vault City shop), can't find a decent melee weapon with low strength requirements etc.
How do I git gud?

The release order is DM, HH, OWB and LR if you want to go by that. I usually go honest hearts first then follow the release order. Honest hearts isn't as connected to the dlcs overarching story, and it can also be done at a lower level then Dead Money, which suggests you be level 20.

Also if you find yourself struggling with lonesome road, remember that you can always go back the way you came and resupply.

Solved the Gecko quests, then became a Vault City citizen and looted their vault. Now I have lots of equipment and money, and bought the car part from the ghoul in the junkyard.
Now I'm just traveling randomly between the Den and Vault City, randomly killing raiders I couldn't kill before, and grinding for more money to buy the Highwayman.
The love affair is still going with the game.

You'll hate Dead Money the first time, but it might become your favorite after a while. The writing is superb and atmosphere is to die for. This is my favorite, but it is very hard. Put some points into melee before starting this.

Honest Hearts is fun if you have a survival build, but frustrating if not. It has exactly one good character and he may be the best character ever written in a video game, but the rest of the cast is weak. There is a lot of walking and the natural beauty of Zion National Park is somewhat lost in the gamebryo engine. Great loot though.

Old World Blues is great, but at times hard to follow. It's campy and makes fun of old b-movies, but the humor strikes some as "reddit" and very "teh Penguin of Do0m." There is also an hour long conversation in the beginning. I liked it though.

Lonesome Road is very linear with a great location and atmosphere, but it's completely ruined by Ulysses. Do not build up hype for him like I did. He's lame and most likely unironically autistic.

So glad I didn't listen to him. Fallout New Vegas is an infinitely better experience if you've played 1 and 2. Not to mention that Fallout 1 and 2 hold up pretty damn well if you can stand the visuals and isometric turn based combat.
