Going free to play alone won't be enough. It needs a new wave of of publicity. Some anon suggested that they announce it going f2p and E3 along with their other announcements. That would give it some much needed attention.

My best guess is keep an ace in the hole update made specifically to shake things up. Make sure it includes changes to an issue everyone and their mom were complaining about.
