Imagine Bioshock without Rapture. Imagine System Shock without Shodan. Could those games stand alone on gameplay? Would you say that was the most memorable quality of these games?

Everything is brightly lit to eliminate any kind of suspense, they reuse the same desiccated corpse asset every two feet, and the other bodies just lie around like mannequin-shaped loot boxes. Enemies are literally faceless blobs without any kind of menace or character. Any kind of solitary tension is broken by a clear voiced speaker announcing Talos 1 to evacuate or whatever. There's no unique identity or character to the setting and that makes it bland as fuck.

Oh but hey there's a wrench and some shitty powers guess this is Bioshock.

No idea. The original Prey was an absolute mess with atrocious dialogue/story and shameless design-element ripoffs that were executed extremely poorly. Didn't handle well, had a pathetically-weak ending, and didn't hold a candle to other first-person-shooter installments that came out in that time-period.

Pretty good System Shock 2.5, but they dumbed it down before release. Preview builds had hardcore survival mode shit and they put in too much ammo/resources/upgrades.

Bioshock is shit though.

Only the contrarian, post-ironic shitposters do. We had a really good thread yesterday where the trolls grew bored after 50 posts or so and there was actually a good discussion on the story and gameplay.
Turns out people who actually play games and don't spend all day on /v/ shitposting actually liked it, for the most part.

The main issues are the difficulty-dip during the mid-game and the lackluster pacing during the end. Especially the constant load-screens as you either arm the self-destruct or place the Nullwave-transmitter.

To be fair, it wasn't really relevant. All that really matters was how you interacted with people and what choices you made.
I'll admit that being 'good' was too easy and the only reason to be 'evil' is to see all the content, but the game really was all about evaluating your empathy. In-game it's about having empathy towards Humans, meta-wise it's about empathizing with simple NPCs.
Like Undertale, it's kind of the question: 'Do you immerse yourself emotionally or just treat it as a game?'

Because you can sneak up to an enemy and sneak attack them for triple damage with a fully upgraded shotgun which pretty much defeats every enemy in the game without any effort. And there's lots of ammo for the shotgun

Yeah, definitely leaned towards the former. Some of the stuff was gut-wrenching. I got the 'good' ending, but it didn't feel very good. Just finished it 20 minutes ago, actually. Still a bit confused about exactly what was going on, but I see what they were aiming for.

I did fall in love with the crew; each member was an individual, and the world gave them character. The baseballs, bases, pizza, and beers in the Arboretum are what hooked me. Almost like a snapshot of their lives before. That got me invested in saving as many people as possible

Depends, but since Dishonored got a decent one, chances are pretty good.
It probably won't be on Earth though, since it'd change the gameplay and setting too much. Maybe one of the Lunar colonies or the Argus station. Maybe you'll play as one of the newly-created Typhon hybrids.

You can move into a crawl-space and attack it from there. Doors aren't enough since it can squeeze through. Kite it by jumping off stairs etc.
Ultimately, Nightmares don't have a lot of health, they just do a ton of damage.

They're also probably glitches in the simulation. Your Typhon nature trying to fight the effort to integrate the human neurons.
