I like the idea, but practically speaking, I don't want "never approach: the game"

64 is fun and the extensive combos are cool, but its meta is often dull since it lacks the DI system that makes melee's combos work the way they do and only has smash DI, which means there's less player interaction mid-punish than in melee and it also means that the only way to avoid getting destroyed like that is to avoid interaction. It would certainly be fun as fuck casually, but competitively it'd be ehh.

Just start going to events and meeting people.

Go to smash meetups and tourneys and get bodied until you git gud.
Make friends maybe if you're the kind of person who can do social interaction and join netplay lobbies if you don't mind a bit of lag.

It still has a scene, but the game is no longer in development and is unfortunately permanantly unfinished.
Not like the last build isn't fully playable, but lets not pretend the project didn't implode.
