The game needs to be harder. They kind of went off the deep end like dragonball z when they have to keep making people so insufferably powerful. Some of the styles they went with kinda throws you off the story and pushes it past the absurdity that can be tolerable. Dynasty Warriors 3 could actually be very challenging on the higher ai difficulty. Yeah, your characters are obviously powerful, but still vulnerable. Made them more human. Now all the the attacks are too flashy. Trying to turn it into an anime. I understand how some people can like the way its going, but Dynasty Warriors 3 sold well because it was intriguing to more people. Imagine that, bringing in more people by making the game challenging. Instead it feels like they listened the to vocal minorities to turn it into a waifu/weeb simulator.

This. I liked the older games more, 2-4. I dislike the current direction both aesthetic and gameplay wise. It's too flashy, too anime, and just too easy and boring. They should really revamp it and slow everything the fuck down a bit but increase the AI aggression, yet they won't because most of the people who play this want an anime kawaii waifu game.

Agreed, in 3 for example you needed to be careful with Guards or Majors, they could fuck you up just like officers and it was dengerous to have them close while fighting an officer.

Right now you can just kill everything easily and regular troops are 100% filler.

Wu is the 'badass old man' Kingdom, and they did great with his look. We FINALLY got the 5 Tiger Generals of Wu together in a main game.

It's not about muh benevolence, it's about upholding the empire. That three kingdoms drama did a pretty nice job of showing the difference in thinking between Liu and Cao.

If DW9's open world is just a shit ton of corridors and mazes, I am going to be really fucking upset.

Also, make battles feel like actual battles like they did in DW3 and 4 please. Enough of this "your team start the battle with 20% of the troops the enemy does and you're expected to do everything as the player". I miss when NPC generals would actually do shit and make contributions to battles that were actually pretty tough to win.

I think a lot of positive reception over 7 (aside from the higher production values) was due to it coming right after DW6 which most of the fanbase hated. It DID have a good presentation though, but it also started going down the route of map designs resembling the SW series in which stage progress is gated due to story events. Nothing like sitting in front of a closed door while NPCs prattle one for hours about virtue.

Changed the gameplay and moveset system making it all feel very light and generic. Every character felt the same to play and it wasn't satisfying. It was the first game where they deviated from the simple combat mechanics from all the previous games.

Removed all the old movesets and most of the old character's signature weapons in favor of the Renbu system. Charge attacks were basically removed and you had a light attack and a heavy attack chain that you could not combine together, and the initial DW6 had it so that you had to keep comboing enemy mobs non-stop to build up your full attack chain, and getting hit or not actively hitting anybody would drain your moveset back down to the basics. Attacks had no weight or impact to them either, so it was hard to tell if an enemy was actually taking damage or was blocking your attacks at times.

Only a handful of characters got unique movesets while everybody else were made clones of these handful or were made clones of the generic officers.. or were just completely removed from the game entirely.
A good chunk of the characters had their signature weapons replaced with others, and most of the changes were unwelcome. Xiahou Dun lost his trademark Scimitar for a fucking club, Wei Yan lost his double edged spear and gained a completely useless different club, and Sun Ce even lost his tonfa.

Character designs and weapons also started getting extremely anime and outlandish as well.

DW7 and 8 reverted many things back to the old style, but things like character designs/weapons are still markedly different than the old days. Several characters like Gan Ning and Diaochan still have their changed weapons from DW6 as well (I don't mind Diaochan's whip, but Gan Ning really needs his River Sword back).

I've been playing it all week. It's more story focused so unless you care about the Sengoku era, it might not be worth it and I would just stick with SW4/4-II where the focus is on the major battles.

Though SoS has done a good job so far of including battles that are happening in other areas while the Sanada family is doing their shit. I'm enjoying it for sure but I love this era of history so I'm hooked anyways.

It was a huge step down from DW5. They made every like 8 officers clones of each other so there was ALOT of people using the same weapons and movesets and they took iconic weapons from characters and gave them some other bullshit. This was the biggest problem for me because no one felt unique anymore in any way.

I bought Dynasty Warriors 8 for PS4 like a year ago. It was Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends. Shit literally looks like a PS2 game. I thought wew, nice, new Dynasty Warriors and got this piece ofshit. Didn't play for a fucking minute, I remember Dynasty Warriors 7 being fucking amazing. It even had better graphics than this piece of shit. What the fuck.

I actually don't. But I expect better graphics from something relatively new I buy on PS4 than the prior installment I played on the PS3 years before. Also, the entire game is set up weird as fuck. There is no proper main story anymore. The whole thing feels rushed, stupid, money grabbing and has no soul. Might as well play 7 again.
