It launched in november 2012 and got it last game march 2017. That is 4 years and 4 months, not 5 years.
Also, Wii U only had one good year: 2014. 2015 was just mediocre, only had 2 good games (Splatoon and XCX) and both of them came in the back half. There was nothing to play the first half.
2012, 2013, and 2016 were absolute garbage for Wii U.

My system came with The Last of Us HD and I dropped that after 2 hours because there are far better games out there that are not walking dialogue simulators.

Personally I haven't had a "main" console since the SNES. I always find that if I stick with just one, whether it's Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft, I get bored. I've never been able to play like, 50 games on a single platform like the rest of these guys. I didn't need to play The last of Us or the Uncharteds again... I mean, who the hell does? Also my PS3 pile has a lot of the PS2 remaster collections, but then again PS2 games were fun enough to replay (and still are).

I trust them. The Wii U had promise and wasn't lazy. When it was revealed, I thought it was the shit, and even if it wasn't as polished as XBO and PS4, I think Nintendo made some of their finest games for it. Trading it in made rebuying MK8 for Switch viable.
Now that I have a hybrid console, it's far easier to invest time in games since I can play according to my mood. If I've not got much time, I'll kick out a Grand Prix in handheld mode before I go, but if it's the evening and I'm actively devoting time to it, I'll play docked.

Same, the older I get, the less free time I'm afforded. I'm working close to 60 hours every week, sometimes even more. If I did have one console only, it probably wouldn't make a difference. I'm too tired to play them half the time anyway.

Honestly, I wish I could go back to the days where the only thing I had to worry about was filling my free time with vidya. I was impoverished but boy did I enjoy myself more than I do now.

I feel your pain. I rarely even finish games now. I start of with plenty of enthusiasm, go through the grind and eventually lose interest and give up. It's a metaphor for my whole life. Thank fuck for alchohol, I always manage to finish that.
