Why are fighting games so niche?
They take some amount of skill and knowledge to not get your ass handed to you. Any retard in CoD can throw a grenade out and get a lucky kill now and then, but fighting games typically take some investment before they're fun for the average person.

>Why are fighting games so niche?
Because online play is shit.
Because fighting games are largely about making guesses.
Why play a fighting game when you could just play Rock Paper Scissors?
Because they're hard and you can't blame your losses on anyone but yourself

Because a fighting game is more fun, and it's not just about rock paper scissors. What kind of question is this?

these two right here sum it up perfectly.
because they're boring.
>Buy day 1
>play for 4 hours
>play the next day for 3 hours
>skip a few days
>play for 3 matches
>never play again
literally the cycle of 90 percent of people that buy fighting games.
Not to mention fighting game "purists" (read autists) always find a problem with the game to the point where they call it trash, which carries over to normies who view it as a bad game and skip purchasing it.

setting up a situation for the enemy where he has to guess takes skill. It's called mixup.

That doesn't explain why most people can spend shittons of amount of time in a mobas or fps games
Requires too much skill and work in numerous different domains. 1v1 so can't be carried or play with friends. A lot of melanin-enriched gentlemen in the Western community, putting off a lot of White nerds.
Higher skill floor than most other genres.

People can immediately have fun in MOBAs and FPSes. Even if you get your ass kicked, you can have your friends around to guide you or just blame the loss on the team.
In fighting games and RTSes, the only one to blame is yourself, and the average person doesn't like feeling as if they're inadequate.

They are only niché on a competetive level. Everyone loves them as party games. Mortal Kombat, Ninja storm or Smash games are all pretty popular because you can do flashy fights by just button mashing. SF, Kof or GG are kind of niché since you have to git gud before the flashy stuff starts.

They were still inherently a little niche on the casual side because of how crucial the competitive aspect is, whether it's a party fighter or something technical most people break into the genre because other people they know play with them. Without anyone to play with the learning phase is a bit miserable and party games lose a lot of their charm,

Ninja storm and smash aren't proper fighting games and MK is a shit one, so figures.

Because you start really having fun after 20 hours. And not in the FFXIII kind of way but the enjoyment grows more and more the more hundred of hours you play.

>aren't proper fighting games
Can someone finally explain this meme to me?
How are games in which you fight, 1vs1 mostly, not fighting games?
