What happened?

Just sorta seemed rushed. I think they forgot that what makes Deus Ex so good is its engaging, overarching, plot, where even the sub-missions reveal different and complex shadow actors. The fun is the conspiracy, and MD's conspiracy just wasn't all that enticing.

Prague is a great hub though

The plot and overall pacing felt like it was half a game, by the end of the game, it seemed like you were just starting to unravel something bigger, which is usually when the game started getting good in both the original and Human Revolution.

Nothing. It was great. I enjoyed the Human Revolution and I enjoyed Mankind Divided just as much. it isn't, it feels like HR 1.5 at its best, it's been 5 years since HR and the focus on Prague is too much, there aren't enough places to explore and the game feels samey with repetitive environments.

The story is pure garbage and new characters are crap, they game just feels half assed really, it's hard to care about anyone even Adam in MD.

Adam and the new things in HR felt new, yet MD reuses the same main character and to make it even more boring, it brings a lot of the old foes from Deus Ex such as Bob Page. This might seem positive because hey look kids there's your nostalgia, but this is a bad thing for many reasons. First it limits the scope of the game, you know no matter how Adam's story with Page ends, you know Bob is alive and kicking in Deus Ex so at best you'll do a minor setback to his plans, how exciting. This also means less expanding the universe, HR worked because despite being inferior to DX in writing, the story had pretty much all new characters, it expanded the universe and didn't have to walk around limitations of the DX universe. Developing a game around existing material and characters limits what can be done without ruining shit, I mean what's going to happen with Bob Page? We either get unsatisfactory ending or they'll have to invent some retarded bullshit like Adam & co kill Page but then Page clones himself and that's the one JC eliminates. Either way it's a bad proposition.

They still have all kinds of annoying shit in the game like the cinematic takedowns that break the pace of the game to show those repetitive animations over and over, THIS SHIT AIN'T GOOD EIDOS.

As a third party here, I've played DX once per year at least for quite a while, and I must be using another definition of the word "real" here, because I don't see what you're getting at.

That being said, without wanting to defend MD's writing and plotting - I don't think it was particularly good - I can't but help thinking a lot to the rejection from its attempts at cyberpunk has mostly to do with the middle to lower-middle classes people that could at least fancy themselves the heroes of 80s cyberpunk not stomaching the realization that they're victims at best in the cyberpunk narrative, but more likely willing cogs in the monstrous machine.

The problem with HR that is greatly exacerbated in MD is how absolutely petty the main dilemma feels like in comparison to the one in DE.

It's practically a 'have' vs 'have-not' with augs that is then viewed in a 'racist' way.

People in Mankind Divided and Human Revolution don't even sound like real people, who talk about mundane shit about how they liked watching something the other day or about how shitty the weather is or someone's big round ass or whatever, the characters in MD/HR exist solely to deliver exposition related to augs. In MD they'd talk about how the new movie Augterminator is out and how that augmented throat makes it better to drink booze or whatever.

I'm Muslim myself and I have to agree with you. Indeed, getting any sort of body modifications like plastic surgery or even tattoos are prohibited in Islam so I doubt getting augs would be any different. Plastic surgery is only permitted if, say, you'd been in an accident that messed your physical appearance to a point that it gets in the way of your life and how others treat you.

That said, if we're talking about terrorists, why the fuck would they even give a shit about these prohibitions in the first place? The thing about Jihad that non-Muslims (and even some Muslims) don't understand is that it is severely regulated if you're actually following the tenets in the Quran. ISIS and Al Qaeda claim that they're waging Jihad but don't give a shit about these regulations and prohibitions, they basically shit on the Quran worse than 'infidels' do. If a group resorts to terrorism or cyber-terrorism, as happened in MD, you can bet your ass that they don't give a shit about any of the things that are outlawed in Islam.
