It's good yeah. Fun game, rented from blockbuster all the time as a wee boy.

I'd put it on par, if not better than 3. 3 had a weak story but strong characters, whereas 4 has a stronger story but a slightly weaker end (loose ends). Combat is improved and both games are fantastic though.

It's actually the best in terms of story, atmosphere, world building, art, and music. Trade off is it has the most boring Woren. A bit different than "Welp, gotta kill God." which is kind of the same theme that repeats itself in 1-3.

The story is excellent but suffered a few cuts here and there due to budget constraints. There's a full version of it in a manga you can find online.


Would highly recommend. I only like Suikoden II and FFIX more than this game.

It's a great game, as is 3. They're both underappreciated gems of the PS1 era.

Played it this year, I liked the story but I dropped the game because I found the gameplay too easy and ultimately kind of a slog.
Would have probably finished it if I played it as a kid, like I did with BoF3

i liked that you can play ryu and fou-lu story.
i still believe the abuse of that dark energy weapon eventually fucked up everything and led to the DQ setting.

3 had a shitawful story but the buildup was GOAT. BoF4 has an actually interesting story with actually interesting characters, minus Scias who was butchered in the english localization (but still a good character, mind you, they just censored one of his character defining elements). I found Nina not falling for Ryu kinda cool. BoF4's only problem is that the story is incomplete and it will never see its conclusion.

I always figured DQ followed 3 since the desert of death would have spread without Myria to stop it.
