Hidden and Dangerous 2: Sabre Squadron is the ultimate World War 2 squad shooter. Multiplayer was tight as fuck. Complete customization years before Call of Duty - helmets, berets, backpacks, wirecutters, mines, binoculars, different types of grenades, characters with different stats that would improve based on usage... Tens of classic weapons, vehicles and multiple maps suited for both CQC and long-range firefights. H&D 3 would fill the niche between lone-wolf type of single player "experiences" and Battlefield-type massive, well... battles.

>>378239938
>>378238485
>Spend the first 10 minutes in a visually busy city level with lots of cool fucking shit going down, things exploding, giant monsters hovering in the air and buildings collapsing.
>Spend rest of the game underground in near pitch darkness with linear levels filled with annoying and bland enemies.
One of the greatest bait & switches in gaming.
>>378239541
Yeah, but it's completely unrelated to the "games only you've played" of the OP.
>>378239740
So did many others.

Same theme, different genre: Hogs of War. Worms 3D years before Worms 3D. Great voice acting and multiplayer, randomly generated maps included.

Yeah, the online multiplayer is pretty much dead, aside from some Russian deathmatch servers.

I played the demo of this so much, never bought the first game but I got the second, was still great though.
I'm very surprised when someone says they also played this, because it was kinda obscure even for people who played a lot of adventure point and click games back in the day

This game was fucking brilliant, too. Amazing core concept, and could actually school contemporary RPG's on how to seamlessly implement choices and consequences into their games.
I know it has a small but dedicated following in Czech Rep, Poland, Slovakia and Russia, but I don't think I've seen anyone who even heard about it outside of those countries.

I think I finished Shogo well over fifteen times now. It was amazing. Really bad, and amazing. Also, I only played my local translation, but there were some really funny jokes at the end. The game so did not take itself seriously. I love it.

Such a let down. Early builds of that game looked great.
>>378242936
>FUn fact : Shogo was one of the few games where you get to kill a little kid.
I know, I remember that scene.
You can also shoot a kitty.
I also remember that totally out of place post-credit scene in which Sanjuro just goes on a fucking MURDER RAMPAGE while happy J-pop plays in the background.
And that fucking kitty side quest? That shit was fucking HILARIOUS. The game really, really did not take itself seriously. I miss game like that.
I don't think I consider the human weapons awesome though. I actually replayed the game very recently and realized how awful the gunplay is, especially when on foot. And the weapons... weak pistols, weak uzi, weak-feeling assault rifle, weak looking but powerful rocket launcher, and then three guns with the same fucking model of the assault rifle firing different types of nade's...
I did like some of the robot weapons though, because they felt like they had quite a punch: were often unweildy but fun. The juggernout I think was my favorite, but I really liked wreaking havoc with the Bullgutt thing.
The starting weapons were shit though.

I laughed my ass off when I accidentally caused the easter-egg radio in FEAR start playing this song in a middle of a very intense firefight.
Listening to this while you listen to the screams and grunts of the FEAR enemies was an out-of-this-world experience.
>"Maaa - sono kokoro dake-
>WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT?!
Also, I never realized how much of a BONER did Monolith have for anime until now. I mean Shogo is an anime love-letter, so placing a key dialogue in the literal reconstruction of the GITS's Movie flooded museum is kinda understandable, but I just realized that FEAR has literally Bato's big fucking cannon and the ending is Akira step by step...
Why don't we get silly genre-love-letter games like this anymore, at least not in mid-high-range production?

>because there is no money in it
I think that is not true. Self-aware nerd-indulgements are ALL the rage right now. And I think the industry is once again finding itself really disenchanted with dull grey corridors. I think if there is a time for self-aware anime-themed shooter, it might be right now.
>>378244238
That game was AWFUL. Oh god that game was terrible. Bought it because the demo was fun, but fuck me: talk about misrepresentation.
