I played on Normal, beat the game. Could be bad-good neutral-good or good-good and they'd recruit no matter what. Ends with neutral and it'd be they leave with and give an item and for bad they just resume the fight. I never had the 1st question effect the end result.

I haven't played ALL of the SMT games, but it's be come my favorite series because of the combat system, the unique settings (old japanese times,modern, futuristic and whatever you'd call strange journey's) and the integration of mythical creatures and legends.
It was a refreshing to play an RPG that wasn't your same old tolkein fantasy with elves, dwarves, orcs and humans.

I've tried a few of them, the only really good ones are Devil Survivor and Persona 4 and 5

The rest I tried were hot garbage, i've tried none of the PS2 ones so maybe some day but the others I played and hated didn't give me incentive to try older ones.

I'm a casual so I played on Conflict, but I intend to play it again on War. Conflict isn't really difficult for most of the game, and I only got blocked in the Cosmic Egg and the final boss because my demons were bad.

They're generally on the nicer side of all the races in SMT.

It's the same fundamental gameplay loop of learning the enemies in each new area, recruiting demons, and finding ways to dispatch them in the most SP efficient way with whatever tools you have.

Certain aspects of IV are arguably easier than P5 in that regard (save anywhere, SP walk, debilitate/luster candy, -karn cheesing basically every boss towards the end).

I think they can be any length so long as they have enough engaging content for the length they are while not feeling like there's not enough to it. SMT IV feels too long, but it's not because it's 50 hours long, it's because it doesn't have enough good content for a 50 hour long game.

Maybe because I haven't played many 50+ hour JRPG's, but I felt Persona 3 and 4 went on for far much longer than they needed to. They could have really condensed those games. There aren't many JRPG's that I could say that have story related content that is compelling for long stretches of the game. It eventually seems like one long errand into another long errand.

P3 went on far too long, though I think it was supposed to be a draining experience on purpose, so maybe it was actually a fine length. P4 went on a little too long, but not to the same degree as 3 in my opinion.
