Fuck off. Nothing about it plays modern. Even for the time it felt a little dated because it was running on modified Quake engine and felt every bit as floaty as that 1996 game. Cutscenes are nothing new. Vehicles were done better in Halo, a game that came out three years earlier. And I'm not impressed that Valve licensed the Havok middleware around the same time almost everyone else was.

I replayed HL2 a year earlier and C17 does not hold up well. The buildings are boxes, there's no geometry to windows or facade details, it's all an extremely obvious and flat texture. I've seen Doom maps with more convincing looking cities.

I'm okay with Valve not developing shit. Doom 2016 was pretty good, Wolfenstein TNO and Metro Last Light were enjoyable. I don't Valve are necessary for good, SP FPS games to be made today. I'm not losing any sleep over Half-Life 3 not being a thing, and the first game is one of my favorites.

It's just better to stay tuned to games that are going to happen than to wallow in misery for what is definitely not coming out.

I never got the appeal of the series. Maybe I played it too late when I first tried it (2011) but by the time I got to it I thought it was kind of dated and bland. The over arching plot that seemed to not really be touched on, just hinted at, was what seemed like the neatest thing but the rest of the game just seems like a dated time piece, great in 2004 but long since made irrelevant
