If Nier had a proper budget their wouldn't even be multiple endings. Also I would like to see a longer dev cycle this is extremely important for engine work which allows new/better gameplay and tools which means faster/better content. So at least a 3 to 3 1/2 year dev cycle nier 2 was made I think around 2 years or less it was a very fast turn around.

Chapter B has some pacing issues at the start but snowballs halfway through all the way to ending E. The problem is ending E is extremely difficult without a legit copy and kinda loses it's effect without it. So you may want to hold off tell you buy it then just start over.

Square-Enix is basically freaking out because Platinium made a perfectly functional game with little time and budget, while their in-house studios struggled ten years with FFXV and are going nowhere with FF7 remake and KH III.

It's a different genre, tomato is an open world actionjrpg. See if that genre can interest you, the combat is obviously immediate and simple like the genre requires, but it has also a lot of fun things if you don't play it reactively and test some shit. The best thing of the combat is how everything flows incredibly well, hacking and shut em up sections included, the worst thing is that a lot of things can be cheesed (see about I said above about playing it reactively).
Sadly quests themselves are bad, but a lot of them (a lot, not all) have surprising good bits of story and characterizations (mostly during their final scenes). The first thing Taro should improved when he will finally get a fucking decent budget are the quests for sure, it's the only genuinely mediocre part of the game.
The stronger point of the game is undoubtedly the direction, and the experience as a whole feels unique and personal while still being immediate and enjoyable, and that's the real reason of its success.

If anything, it's a testament as to why mixing a leveling system with real live action doesn't work that well most of the time; unless very careful with how systems are intertwined.
