I played 2 and got bored, but I finished Wayfarer of Time.

Growlanser 4 is amazing. The story and characters are decent for a JRPG and the art is nice but the real reason I love it is the gameplay. There's always interesting objectives that makes the gameplay varied and the core battle system is both tactical and engaging.

I wish they did an upgraded port of Growlanser 3 as well, game's setting, waifus, and the twist about the MC were great, but goddamn there is a certain point were it becomes incredibly obvious they had to rush shit, and emulating it is borked on PS2

Yes, it's a great game. It did however have an emulation issue requiring certain fonts to be installed, I'm not sure if it's been fixed yet.

Can we finally post again? Anyway, I am downloading all available undubs and it seems 2-5 are covered. Are these the only english ones or did I miss something?

While I'm at it I want to play langrisser too, since an anon mentioned it as superior. It seems the first one is called warsong and 2nd and 3rd are saturn fan translations while the 4th and 5th ones received translations for the ps2 versions. Is there an effort to upgrade the older translations to the re releases with better portraits and such?
I hope we aren't missing much by playing the saturn versions.

The 2nd one has a Genesis English translation and the snes version (Der Langriser) also has a patch. As far as I know, the 1 & 2 saturn rereleases remain untranslated.

I have one of the Growlanser games on PS3 (Grow3, I think) but I never really got very far into it. For that matter, why makes the series good? A lot of series are noteworthy for their story or mechanics or characters, but honestly I don't remember Growlanser standing out for anything outside a very distinctive character artist.

Played Growlanser 5 but I couldn't get into it. Character design was hideous and the gameplay wasn't good enough to even just play through in a bored manner.
