Why aren't video games art?
Because they are games like monopoly or soccer
What if I told you that it has been proven that video games are art?Nothing would change. Idiot.
Thomas Was Alone was an alright puzzle platformer. Not the best game ever but the gameplay concept was interesting and decently explored.
Why should it be taken seriously as art when majority of its consumers still argue over plastic boxes with different logos on them?

All of the pieces that make up a video game individually are art. Music, assets, writing, etc.
Video games themselves are not art though.
anything that's expressive and observable is art.
I can take a dump on your mom, and it would be art.
instead of paint, i use feces, instead of canvas, i use her chest

I'd say there have been numerous instances on which videogames have achieved a pure artistic experience, but the medium has not reached a point where everyting produced in it can offer a subjective experience (like movies, for example).
The main problem here I'd say is that the market is fragmented between manchildren that consume every sequel of their favorite franchise regardless of motives behind said sequels, underage kids who just want to upload their stupid minecraft gameplays to youtube, and morons who like to play competitively because they can't do real sports for shit and can't get a real job.
The percentage of people that enjoy games artistically and narratively I'd say is the lowest of the entire market.

I thought the idea of reducing the PC of a platformer to blocks was genius. You knew exactly how far you could jump and if you missed a jump you knew that it was your fault and not some bad sprite design.
