Now that Dark Souls is at its end for the foreseeable future, my hype for the industry as a whole is in its death throes. Put simply, nothing compares to the level of passion and detail put into every inch of these games, the kind you don't often see except in top-tier indie titles. Even the games headed by professional studios that are trying to copy it are mediocre and fail. Everything is rooted in market trends now. If it's not popular, if it's not a battle-tested formula, it's not made. Developers don't even have the confidence to put out demos for their games anymore. All the same mechanics with new paint jobs and superficial layers poured on to them.
How do we bring the industry out of this rut, /v/?
have you played prey you whiny bitch
Sadly, the answer is probably in what's coming from the non-AAA studios, and we all know how /v/ feels about most indies.

I don't know there's just a lot of games right now man. Pick one and enjoy it. Dark souls is gone but you can play a competitive online game for years. And there's still quite a bit of innovation, you just have to look for it outside AAA titles. Third person action might not last forever but theres always something new.
