did they do some sort of event they forgot to tell anyone about?

Wow it's like they should've just let the other team release their game instead of spending the money to make a new one.
>>

>no marketing
>the marketing there was misrepresented the game as boring shit clone of deadspace
>demo was not at all like the rest of the game
>released during the time of year where sales figures are usually pretty low
>kept old genre conventions that turn off new players
Understandable really. It was a poor move to release that demo. I still enjoyed the game though, best western game of the year besides Battle Brothers
>>
this angers the todd.

What relation does this game have to the original Prey? I beat both games and I see little reason both games are in the same IP. They aren't in the same location, they have no characters in common, they have totally different aesthetics, they have wildly divergent tones, they play nothing alike, and they don't even take place in the same general timeline. The only similarity they share is the existence of space aliens as an antagonist and a first person perspective.

Am I just not seeing something? Did Bethesda think tying this game to Prey would make it sell better? It's a fine game, but I think making it a Prey game just ended up confusing the fuck out of everyone. How does Bethesda keep fucking this kind of thing up? First Doom, now this. Is their marketing department full of morons?
>>
Why even bother having guns when the most common enemy requires you to use the wrench and swing it around like a madman?

>What relation does this game have to the original Prey?
Absolutely nothing, they just used the name to trick people that wanted Prey 2.

They just used the name because they own it and its short and sweet. If they wanted to trick people they wouldn't have released a demo and gameplay trailers.

That's where the relations ends

Nevermind, he definitely wrote the Danielle Sho subplot. It was the most fleshed out character subplot and prominently features lesbians and a tabletop RPG group. Gotta be him.

By the way, Alex Yu was objectively correct and January is a retard. Blowing up Talos 1 wouldn't stop the Typhon and their research is basically the only thing that can help them for the inevitable invasion.
>>
>>378197404

Early on before you get the bonuses mimics are actually more dangerous than the standard typhoid on hard. However that flips the moment you start getting enough neuromods.
>>

I'm convinced the marketing team just instantly pocketed whatever budget they were given, the first time I heard of this game was here on /v/ days after it had already came out.

Reminder that Bethesda's marketing team hated the original plot twist in Prey 2 because it was "too confusing":

>Prey 2
>Killian would meet Tommy during the story and assume it's the first time you've met
>Whenever Killian would die he would respawn in his safe house
>Towards the end, Killain would come across 100s of dead bodies, but they're all him
>During the time where he came into that world, he does many times (and the player would) and each time, his consciousness would transfer to a clone on his apartment
>However, he'll never remember that
>That's why he never recognised Tommy before
>Eventually Killian would be in a situation where some spaceship is blowing up, would attach that teleported device from the trailer to himself, input random coordinates and teleport
>He gets teleported to Earth by chance
>Quits being a bounty hunter, gets married, has children and grows old
>Killian is on his death bed at old age surrounded by his loved ones, passes away and the screen turns to white
>You wake up back at your safe house
>Your consciousness was transferred to a clone again
>"Welcome back."

I've only ever been limited by Exotic material. 98% of what I make has been Neuromods. I've made a few shotgun shells.

I'm on hard and use the wrench on all mimics. Psychoshock + Shotgun for everything else. Or I throw heavy shit if I'm feeling like changing it up.

I sided with Alex because it slowly became more certain that his January incarnation was an asshole. The December one just seemed to want to make a side bet and prepare if things got bad. Hell all of this was Morgans doing in the first place and finally to top off this shit sunday the only " real " reason Alex was so disconnected with the situation was because he genuinely missed his brother/sister. Imagine if some one you grew up with who was like a friend and even made you filthy rich just goes fucking crazy and has a breakdown.

Poor fucking Alex, it was like...he was this other character I've seen before. One who was forced to see hundreds of incarnations of you and having to go along with what ever whacked out decisions you made. It's on the tip of my tongue, who was that character who was really well written that was afraid to tell you the truth in fear of your reaction because of your past amnesia?

Neuromods wouldn't do shit against typhon. mimics produce 3 more of themselves for every human they kill. They'd overrun Earth in a day, neuromods or not.

Besides, no one is gonna bother using that tech after knowing You need humans to produce the exotic materials

Not as gay or cringeworthy as the fucking lesbians, like I get its a call back to suarez and his whore. But holy shit, forcing the transcribe audio collection for " that " of all things. It would have been better if it was the two of them doing something like trying to get into a restricted area or like in SS2 sending messages while they try to survive.

Also the lesbians death, holy shit, its not safe outside any way just go to a nearby airlock and air back up. Fuck there were cargo containers and air tanks floating the fuck outside.
>>
>>378198794
Neuromods are what enable Morgan to fight back against the Typhon. They're basically the only reason you manage to survive.

Also if the Typhon are going to chew through humanity anyway, you may as well make use of the byproducts to preserve yourself.
>>
>>378198682

Except in early game you get fear + stamina loss from fighting mimics as well. And it only takes about 2-3 hits to kill you.

You are right though, smart modding ends that shit quickly, but only if you know what to pick.

I... don't know why I didn't think of doing that. I'm not using them and water restores 50 psi. I bet I have 50+ hypos.

Thanks bro-anon.
>>
>>378199170
Dude what? Fear barely has any effect on anything you do, I never even noticed it. Stamina loss is also a nonissue since you can kill a mimic in 1 charged and 1 uncharged hit, and then just wait for stamina to come back.
>>
>>378199174
No problem champ. I did the same thing, I had like 100 sitting around because it was so easy to get psi and then I chucked 'em into the big ol machine and blam. 40 exotic material for freeeeee
>>
>>378198847
If you actually make a good point on /v/ you will get ignored. You have to wrap the point in bait and maybe call everyone here a nigger before they will respond.
>>
>>378199174
Or you know, you could just dupe materials. Exotic was never an issue for me, likely because I picked up the typhon harvest skill really early on. I constantly ran out of metal and organic until I stopped scrapping extra weapons and instead started recycling them.
>>
>>378199416
I would rather hear peoples thoughts about the game than ebin bait thanks
>>
>>378199258

You're either not playing on hard, which is pussy baby mode and barely considered a game at that point. Or you've got wrench and some other things modded and are just being coy.

Fear blinds you and if you are in a room with a mimic, there is usually another nearby. Turning into a massive spam the swing and try to land the hit.

I've already beaten the game on hardest difficulty, I've made mimics not shit in under 5 minutes of quick modding, but I also know how dangerous they are going into the game blind on an actual difficulty setting.
>>
>>378198847
alright smarty pants go make a reasonable estimate how much the game cost
>>
>>378199029
What immortality? How does a clone dying on another planet affect the subsequent clone? It's doesn't know or care what the previous clone did.

See what I mean about this being pointless? This kind of twist doesn't mean anything. It's a half baked idea from a bunch of laid off idea guys.
>>
>>378199452
>I constantly ran out of metal
fucking this. Even if you recycle every spare weapon you find you WILL run out of metal often if you're mainly using guns. I wish I had taken that mod that gives you 20% more yield.

I had like fucking 50 exotic material at the end of the game and like 2 metal.
>>
>>378199572
I am playing on the hardest difficult mode, and attempting to beat the game without using nueromods. You could argue that a brand new player might struggle since they don't have the knowledge that things are so easy to kill, but there is nothing you can't wrench smack early on.

The only effect I ever noticed form fear was a very minor vignette effect. I've never been in combat for long enough to be "blinded" apparently. Even against multiple mimics.
>>
>>378199651
Throw. The Recycler Grenades. At piles. Of shit.
Do you guys seriously not throw a bunch of boxes/lockers/people/tools into a corner and then toss the grenades at them?
>>
>>378199651
> I wish I had taken that mod that gives you 20% more yield.
Why didn't you? By the time I finished my first playthrough, I had purchased every single human skill and had like 30 neuromods stocked up that I found after maxing everything. Granted, I spent 30 hours to complete the game, so I guess if you zerg through it you might have issues.
>>
>>378199684
Fear makes the screen a bit blurry and its harder to look at the thing that gave you fear because there's an effect that moves the camera away from it.
>>378199763
those black and silver boxes are great for Minerals
>>
>>378198609

I did this often and it gave fucking jack shit for materials.

So I just started to save them to get rid of obstacles I couldn't move.
>>378199817
>Why didn't you
I thought I wouldn't need it with all the scavenging and shit I was doing. Boy was I wrong.

I spent like 20 something hours in the game and I had a good chunk of neuromods installed, but no anywhere near completion. Could've manufactured a fuckton of them if I had any metal to spare, but all of it went into ammo.
>>
>>378199863
PC. maybe it made my camera control more sluggish and i was constantly over correcting, but it was way harder to aim with my mouse when i had fear
>>
How much changes if you go full typhon edgelord? I was thinking about replaying and doing the exact opposite of what I did my first run, which was pure human moralfag.
>>
>>378199684

I almost wish the game didn't have the mimic scope, or at least that you don't get it immediately. Because I'm a gigantic vagina, the game had me on edge until I could scan for mimics. >>378200225
If he just dies and respawns with no memory of what happened previously, who gives a damn? There's nothing especially tragic or ironic or interesting about this scenario.
>>
Did anyone else get screwed by Aaron Ingram? The end cutscene talked about me letting someone die and I had to fucking Google the name because I had no idea who they were talking about. Turns out it's the guy in Hardware (I think) where you have the option of killing him or releasing him. I released the fucker, then came back after doing the caulk side mission and saved his ass from a Typhon before I left. Somehow he still ended up dying, which ruined my perfect "empathy" score.
>>
>>378200676
I honestly probably spent more time with the scope on than off. Even ignoring the mimic detection, I wanted that research and the tracking was great. And then I later got a chip that boosted damage to marked enemies.
>>
>>378195994

>>
>>378200891
I absolutely fucking hated the awful noise the scope made. I was upset that I had to use it when I had a perfectly functional zoom ability prior to picking it up, and then couldn't use it afterwards.

I scoped for research and nothing else.
>>
>>378200920
That's actually where I left him. After I saved him (which I actually fucking reloaded a save because he was killed the first time), he ran to the room and the door was shut. I had a couple of completion bugs so I guess I can't be completely surprised.
>>
>>378200225
It sounds like a mind blowing twist, but the more thought you give to it, the less impact it seems to have. It's a non-sequitur ending that seems to be a twist ending for its own sake. I'm really not seeing the whole deal people are making, oh wow, a video game that ends in a mindblowing twist, and not that original of a twist on top.
>>
>>378201030
The only thing I can think of is you ran through that area at some other point and one of the respawned enemies just iced him. Like a mimic crawled through the little reception box or something. I locked the door on him and he lived for me vOv.
>>
>pirated it
>get skooped very easy
>don't like being spooged
I've only encountered mimics and phantoms thusfar. The mimics give me jump scares but are mostly harmless. The phantoms don't scare me but they are fucking obnoxious to kill. I'm only like a couple of hours in but I did a lot of exploring.
Every single time I encounter a phantom I get my shit pushed in and have to use half my medkits and food. Playing on hard btw.

I also really hate the "turret is in an area, come back later and the turret is destroyed" feeling.

Does it get any better? Or am I continually going to be spooked and should just uninstall now?

Do you have the Psychoscope yet? That'll assuage your fears of mimics, at least. And Phantoms are super easy if you use the wrench. If you manage to sneak crit them with a wrench, they fall down and you have ample time to beat the shit out of them before they get up. You can usually kill them in one cycle, but I did have all the wrench upgrades so that likely makes a difference.

Been following Markiplier's playthrough (fuck off we're all trying to get by) and I have been utterly enthralled with this game. It's a little creep and I don't like creepy games personally but fuck watching this game unfold is just mesmerizing. Looks fantastic and the world building is top notch?
>>
>>378197860
The game was canceled and over with before the new Prey game came into the mix. Let it go.
>>
The game is really messy, it feels like it was made by a marketing team who couldn't decide what the game is supposed to be.

The exploration feels pretty lame, the upgrades don't really add anything since it's just "do you want psi abilities or not", the enemies do shitloads of damage and aren't particularly fun to fight since you fight them all in the same way really, the "survival" aspects are dumb since you can just flood yourself with ammo and health packs, even fully upgraded more than half the enemies feel damage sponges, etc

Prey feels like it's trying to be too many things at once and never really surpasses mediocrity in any one area.

It's like an even more disappointing Metro
>>
>>378194903
Mimics are great
Poltergeists are great

But the Phantoms, Telepaths, weaver, etc. are just not interesting to fight nor are they frightening. The ink tendril motif doesn't work too well as something you're always looking at. It's great for the mimics because it makes sense that a shapeshifter has a bizarre, almost non-corporeal, appearance. They should've had an enemy type that was a more advanced mimic (moreso than the greater mimic) that poorly imitated people, whose limbs would split apart into the ink tendrils when engaging the player. You could even reuse the phantom's bark dialogue to hammer home a homage to the hybrids.

mid to late game on q-beam.
enemies can respawn when you leave the area through a loading screen.
enemies will respawn when you complete objectives.
hacking > repair
goo gun is utter shit besides creating paths to climb.
pistol is total shit compared to the shotgun when looking at damage to cost ratio.
>>

>Nightmare spawns
Is that supposed to happen? I saw all the typhon in the room before I even talked to Elazar and decided I was going to go in the room and clear it out myself. I put a bunch of fortified turrets in front of the door and then my mission updated and said that I was supposed to stop the breach. All the typhon died in literal seconds and I don't think I even had to fire a single shot. And a nightmare didn't spawn for me.
>>
>>378201972
Something that always bothers me with these games is all of the food. I refuse to believe a ~120 crew space station with a fucking real cafeteria only has like piles of eel and apples and some kind of shitty snacks to get by on. I get that it's really not fair since modelers have to make all those items but come the fuck on. At least make a couple different kinds of chip bags.
>>
>>378202094
I only used the stun gun the few times I found telepathed enemies, but goddamn did it come in handy with the military operators. They seemed to have 500% more hp than the other corrupted ones.
>>
>>378202026
The enemies were fairly lackluster, but in any case you're so overpowered by the late game combat is more a nuisance than anything else. Telekinetic blast 3 blows apart everything and the shotgun sweeps up what's left.

The Prey franchise died when they cancelled the REAL Prey 2, where you were supposed to be a bounty hunter in a blade runner-ish city.

This Prey is just a casual console shitfest. They probably spent 70% of the budget on marketing to push pre-orders and other extras... Leaving just a tiny bit for actual devlopment.

The games sucks so much. The game is full of QTEs and like 3/4 of the screen is full of text and other useless shit. The gun feeling is just sad, and feels really "plastic". I won't even talk about the morbidly small FOV... which gave me clostrophobia.

You guys are so dumb for pre-purchasing these casual games before even trying them, or before even waiting for legit reviews.

the problem is that it does nothing with the elemental damage system it has in it
if it allowed you to use fire acid, electric, explosive etc ammo types, combined with environmental traps and machinery it would open up a lot of combat possibilities
as it is early on its just mindless wrench hitting and later on just walking up and exploding phantoms with 1 fully upgraded shotgun blast to the face

the mimic thing is only for smaller enemies so its more annoying than anything, since they cant even commit to big enemies changing shape into survivors or parts of the enviroment

they just do nothing with any of the ideas they had, they barely scratch the surface of everything and then drop it to half implement another shitty gimmick
>>
>>378207964
You'll feel the benefit of a sneak stun before laying into them, as the sneak bonus applies ontop of the stunned bonus, and the stun bonus continues to apply until they recover from it, unlike the sneak.

You can get it in the first 10 minutes,
use the GLOO gun to get to the 2nd floor in neuromods division, you'll see a corpse with the gun next to it.

>>378207736
I don't know where they get Bioshock from either, the only reason they're in any way similar (they're actually not at all) is because they both draw from SS2. Although in that, Prey and Dead Space are related because DS1 started development as SS3 but EA couldn't get that off the ground due to the stipulations of Warren Spector, even though EA has the rights to the name.

In any case, Prey is what Bioshock would've really been going for if it wanted to truly spiritually succeed SS.

I'm only past Chasing Echoes on my Typhon-only run, but there's not been many changes yet. Couple of calls from January with slightly changed wording or additional dialogue. For instance, when January contacts you in Crew Quarters about how he's been scanning the psychotropic fields around the station, he's noted that humans barely affect it, typhon make significant ripples, and the coral shit Weavers make is like a fucking beacon. He then adds, just before cutting out the call, "By the way, when I scan you, your imprint is like a Typhon's…"

I also had an easier time getting the quest for the Nightmare's control satellite to trigger - in my human run, I didn't even get the quest. 'Course, that could've been because I was so OP I would murdertize the shit out of them fairly quickly.

I did it my first time through. You scan its head, and when the scan completes, you get shaken like an explosion happened by you (or you just suffered a massive brain hemorrhage) and are left with 1HP/1Psi.

I did not notice that quite so immediately, so when a tendril came for me I instantly died. Had to reload from a minute ago (quicksave often) and did it again, paying fucking attention this time. It was like five minutes later that January called in his warning.

…Thanks, January.

>>378208236
There's some point where you can scan the main body. It gives you Fear and reduces your HP to 1.
