B is a bit unnecessary but C is such a masterpiece it honestly doesn't matter what they put before it it's worth playing.

The games mirror each other in how they follow this specific structure in how you receive information, you fucking plebian, that makes the game worth playing through all the routes.

>B route reveals more information, presenting the story in a new light. Depression sets in.
>C/D/E are the extended/final ends. Emil suffers. Player has an existential crisis.

And for that fucking matter, neither Nier nor Automata are entirely clear on the background lore. A shitload is still in the dark as is, and I'd say Automata was better in giving you a decent understanding of the current situation of the world. That said, a lot of what we know is pieced together from supplemental materials.
