Literally all of the NG games on the PS3 are fantastic excluding the obvious now obsolete NG3 and that one who's name must not be spoken.

What exactly is wrong with the base game level design and bosses? All of RE's problems were mechanical and lack of content, literally all of them were fixed. Anyway, it's obviously subjective. I thought the fights in NG1 were much better. NG2's biggest flaw for me was also the boss fights but the levels and standard enemies were a lot more fun to fight in NG2 for me.

NG3:RE was just worse enough than NG2 that I never saw a reason to go back to it and just tended to replay 2 when the mood struck.

The gameplay demo was extremely tight and onrails so I don't really know if it's any good, but that's the standard. It's like when I "played" last guardian at last year's judges week.
