Hopes or lack thereof?
Same as the first except the levels are different.
>>378179392
Could stand to polish up combat a bit, even if the rest of it doesn't turn out to be as creative as the first.
>>378179949
i hope its good the VR game seemed pretty ok

I really like the HD models. Nice that they updated it without changing the cartoony designs too much.

>dust cloud at feet
I'm hoping for some very thinly veiled political references so I can shitpost on /v/ about it while pretending to be from /pol/.

Punk rock vibes were more natural back in the day.

You can move while shooting now. So I think it'll feel a bit less stick anyway.
>>378179392
the first game aged badly
>>378181564
The first game did a good job at not dating itself.
I think any modern political or media references would have the game shooting itself in the foot.
>>378182210
The combat and platforming was always kind of awkward, but I think the rest of it still holds up alright.
>>378181182
I have mixed feelings about the acrobatic platforming. On the one hand, I'm glad that they're trying to be faithful to the original, but I found the acrobatic part of the platforming to be the least interesting movement mechanic.
>>378183372
I hope they model more things after the levitation ball. Every platforming puzzle at the campsite was pretty much irrelevant after you got that power.
>>378181790
Not to such an extent.
>>378180949
Dang, that's cool, give's me a little bit of hope.
Like they're actually trying to be innovative with a game that deserves innovation.
>>378183798
i like Loboto's childhood it was well done
If Tim Schafer ever had talent, he lost it.
>>378183607
Making harder challenges for the levitation would probably leave a lot of players unable to do them unless the reduced the weight and momentum, but that would kill a lot of the insane stuff you could do. If you considered your challenge to be going as fast as possible, you had almost no limit with levitation.
>>378184395
Considering his past record (Maniac Mansion, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts), he likely had it. Too bad it died sometime between Brutal Legend and Broken Age.
>>378179392
I hope that it feels complete, mainly.
I played the VR spinoff and it does some cool things, but overall it feels half-baked even for a point-and-click game. And I didn't really laugh as much compared to the original.
>>378184696
>Considering his past record (Maniac Mansion, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts)
I'm aware of his past record but I have to question how much he was actually involved in the parts that were good.
While I am hopeful because shit shown thus far has been limited, but good, I still believe Tim's gonna find a way to fuck it all up even with all his old handlers on staff.
>>378182210
Name a better 3D platformer from that era.
>>378185190
>I'm aware of his past record but I have to question how much he was actually involved in the parts that were good.
Well considering that some of the games he made were from the era where you'd have like 5 people working on a game, instead of the modern development monster with thousands of employees on a single title, I'd say he was probably significantly involved with the parts that were good. Not to mention that all of the point and click titles he worked on were uniformly excellent, even when other senior colleagues moved on to work on different things and his team changed around him.
Tim Schafer is a talented writer and world builder. Him being shitty at budgeting, running a company, making actual gameplay, and being a general bad human being doesn't erase the talents that he does have.
>>378185578
Blinx 1 and 2?
>>378185578
The Sly Cooper games (especially 2) come pretty close.
Also, Jak 1 and Hero's Tail.
>>378181453
Probably an early take on the animation to be fair.
>>378184893
It was short, but I thought it was good for a standalone adventure. Thought it was nice to hear all the old cast again.
Wish that there was a little more variety in potential puzzle solutions though.
Not supporting Tim Schafer.
>>378179392
I hope its a good game, I really liked Psychonauts 1, it blew my mind when I played it repeatedly on those xbox demo discs
>>378183607
I liked being able to bounce everything with levitation.
Did waste quite a bit of time trying to finish the scavenger hunt without it though.
Alternative costumes.
More levels like the Napoleon chessboard level from the original.
Badass psychic boss battles.
A memorable, powerful villain.
>>378186448
>xbox demo discs
I get weirdly nostalgic for those.
The online market's easier and all, but getting a packed demo disk felt like Christmas back in the day.
I think their decision to give shooter controls in the brief demo they've shown is a good change. Psychonauts would've benefitted from shooter controls, the game had a grenade, telekinesis would've been better as a gravity gun esque mechanic than how clunky it was, PSI blast was a classic shooter power, and so on.
I'm hopeful despite Tim's political views having been too annoying lately. I still like Psychonauts.
>>378185578
I think Sly Cooper beats it mechanically. But I'd probably give Psychonaut's writing and level design the edge.
>>378186703
You're not the only one. Demo discs in general were a thing you wanted to have back in the day.
>>378186703
aye, I remember having enough fun from those demo discs, wish I still had them
>>378186829
Yeah, one of my biggest issues about the combat in the original was how using most powers forced you to stop moving in the middle of combat. So a lot of situations just devolved into exchanging punches and tanking the damage.
After Spacebase and how they handeled that and gamer gate I'm never buying a Double Fine game again.
>>378186504
>Alternative costumes.
I hope there are more areas like the Black Velvet painting world where everyone changes appearance to match the new world's design.
>>378179392
I hope Tim falls down an elevator shaft.
>>378179949
Is that, Cruller riding a horse?
>>378185914
Blinx 2 was really bad desu. The pig campaign was shit.
>>378181628
Psychonauts is in that timeless era of setting where they can give the main characters access to jets and high tech spy equipment but no one knows what a cell phone is yet.
>>378189147
>but no one knows what a cell phone
It's called bacon.
>>378189829
I clariview what u did ther
>>378189829
>carried an unbagged strip of meat around the whole story
>it gives hints on nearly every enemy and every puzzle in the game
I wonder if they'll keep that gimmick.
>>378190602
I always felt that the game was great for kids or inexperienced players. Even if you didn't need the hint, the dialogue was often amusing.
>Ca-caw
Tim Schafer can fall into a pit of dicks and die for all I care. Not supporting that fuckhead.
>>378180674
>>378180949
>That James Bond intro
>>378179392
I hope it's good. I fear that Tim will cram in some cringey bullshit regarding his political opinions.
>>378179392
Considering Schafer's recent track record and "antics", I will be genuinely surprised if doesn't turn out to be an abortion of a sequel
>>378193627
Has he actually done this with any of his games?
I know people give him a lot of shit for getting involved with the gamer gate arguments, but I don't recall any of his projects actually being that blunt about his political opinions.
Is the Psychonauts on PS4 a PS2classic or a made for the PS4 port?
>>378194148
I think it's the PS2 version brought over. Not positive though.
>>378194148
PS2 classic
>>378194243
>>378194235
That's...unfortunate. Better than nothing I suppose.
I'm honestly a little conflicted about buying it
>>378194148
i got the port on the PS3 and it was really really bad, it had a really low resolution. the video was slower then the audio in cut scenes and they would end when the sound finished. i still have no idea what happens right before the last part of the final boss. im willing to bet the PS4 version is the same.
the PC version is perfect though.
>>378185739
Yes but psychonauts was made at a time where double fine was more than simply 5 people and I don't think there are many people still there who worked on the original. Point being we are at best looking at a yooka Kaylee style psychonauts, a mediocre an ultimately hollow game.
>>378194505
They got the same writers, voice cast, character designer and music composer on cast, so there's that.
>>378194803
Playtonic had a handful of rare employees as well that worked on banjo kazooie. Games of this scale aren't made good by just a handful of individuals but entire teams that collaborate well together.
>>378195267
Fair enough, but big teams shift around all the time. So I guess it's up in the air when asking what or who specifically brought the charm of the original to the forefront.
But the script writers and art style are a decent start.
Lili is cute but also a textbook thot. I spent a shitload of time running around day time camp and taking to everyone and it seems like she was at one time friends with those two bitchy girls sowing but had a falling out. Made me wonder why did a total 360 on Raz after telling him to piss off the first few times they met.
>>378195953
>seems like she was at one time friends with those two bitchy girls sowing but had a falling out.
I don't really remember that. She was touchy about friendship bracelets, so I assumed the implication was that she didn't have the best of luck with friends in general.
But Raz was good-natured and excitable, and made things interesting after years of camp apparently being incredibly boring.
I am the milkman. My milk is delicious.
>>378179392
I will likely pirate it because FUCK Tim Schafer.
>>378179392
>Game by modern Double Fine

>xbox demo discs
>xbox
You're in the wrong neighborhood, nigga
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SwQr1Xsg9E listen to this
>>378195953
I liked Lili in Rhombus of Ruin. They expand on her character a bit and mention how she was embarrassed about her CEO Psychonaut father showing up at the camp and making a big deal out of checking in on her until she asked him to stop.
So she might have been treated differently by everyone except Raz because of what a big shot her father was.
My hope is that its a longer game with more brains to enter. Best case can enter campers minds
>>378179634
I came here to post exactly this.
>>378186703
Were demo discs ever mailed out randomly?
I was never signed up for any magazine or anything, but I still remember receiving a promotional disc or two from Playstation Underground.
>>378196569
You are a cunt who requires me to grind out an item I wasn't expecting to need in my first play through
double fine means you pay twice.
>>378179634
That sounds right.
Though honestly, I think they covered a lot of the more obvious mental issues to explore. Rage, repression, depression, split personality disorder, paranoia, etc.
The idea still has lots of potential, but I'm curious what they'll do with it.
I played a little bit of Psychonauts 1 a long while ago, and am looking to really get into it now. I have access to it on xbox orignal and ps2 on ps4. Which version should I play?
>>378196634
>>378197384
If you think Broken Age was shit just say it was shit.
But no one had to pay twice for it.
>>378197452
I think the original Xbox version ran smoother and had less glitches overall.
The only issue I recall was that Raz's outfit changed color in-between loading screens every once in a while when you played it on 360.
>>378197405
>in Psychonauts 2 they cover Gender Dysphoria and antisemitism
>>378197697
Well to be fair gender dysphoria is a mental illness
>>378197405
Gotta deal with that water curse at some point.
>>378197504
Timtam had to beg for more funding after the kickstarter already "succeeded" because he blew all the money.
>>378198292
Second half was still free if you bought the first.
>>378197405
Will they cover autism?
>>378198380
Unless people funded it a second time it wouldn't have come out. Then he blew all the money a second time and released the unfinished game banking on the sales to cover the cost of part 2.
>>378198158
Apparently the Galochio's thing is supposed to be tarot cards and palmistry so we might get some cool level designs out of that
>>378198720
>tarot cards and palmistry
Cause the ones who cursed Raz's family were fortune tellers?
>>378199115
Yep
>>378198552
Regardless, no one paid for the full game a second time unless they went out of their way to buy the game twice.
>>378179392
>Psychonaughts 2
>By modern Tim Schafer
I don't know what to expect.
In all honestly, the chances of this game being good are astronomically low. The last passable DF game was Costume Quest, and that was 7 years ago. Since then, Tim has succumbed to both SJWism and Judaism. I mean, I'm going to play it, but I'd be shocked if it's even average.
>>378199643
>succumbed to Judaism
The hell does that even mean?
>>378199975
it means now he only eats kosher food, studies the Torah, puts talit, fasts on Yom Kippur and so on
>>378199975
I'm saying he's gone full jew with multiple Kickstarter scams and projects he literally straight up abandoned after tricking people into buying it.
>>378199543
I'm torn, because crowdfunded games feel like Russian Roulette but with worse odds.
But I also feel like it's one of those ideas that even if it doesn't reach the same level as the original, that it at least has the chance to do something interesting.
>>378200437
I feel bad for the original crew of double fine. They really poured their hearts into this game and even though most of them have left the studio I'd imagine if this game is the same level of shit as Timtam's sock puppet joke It would hurt.
>>378196856
>Lili's actually the rebellious rich girl
I'm cool with that.
>>378180949
>Lobotobackstory
Damn.
>>378179392
I'm hoping it has the same level of charm as the original, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I might pick it up later once there's some reviews and shit, because I don't trust schafer enough to preorder or buy it day one
>>378196885
I doubt we'll be seeing all the campers return sadly. New hub areas.
>>378201559
hit me in the feels
>>378185578
>>378185914
Have to agree with this. Blinx had some good, simple platforming mechanics and gimmicks while psychonauts is jank.
>>378185578
The appeal in Psychonaut's gameplay was still based in adventure game logic.
You could deal with enemies and interact with people with a dozen different items and powers, but a lot of the emphasis was more on the funny results it would have and less so on them actually being useful or convenient in combat.
>>378179392
Right now I'm just hoping for a release.
>>378202670
>I got nothing to hide!
