This game is actually really good. Why do people dislike it?

I don't dislike it.

I just felt it had a lot of shortcomings and was overall less inspired and uninteresting.

Great OST though.

To me it and 3DLand will be the sequels to SMB3 and SMW that we missed out on for 3 generations. Super Mario 3D World is classic Mario at its finest translated to 3D.

The variety of levels was amazing and it brining multiplayer and persistent powerups and the classic formula to 3D was great.

This game has some good level design but it still has the same New Super Mario Bros aesthetic to it which is the lowest and laziest this franchise has gotten.

I would argue 3d world was the worst mario game I've ever played, for the following reasons:
>catsuit breaks the game, makes 99% of the stuff that should be "challenging" a fucking joke, and is required for a good chunk of the stars
>star farming is retarded, forcing people to replay levels and play shitty toad minigames just because the game lacks real content is insulting. Ontop of which the "puzzles" to get stars are ridiculously easy to the point they're not even fun
>only good levels are the ones that play like a 2d mario, most of the levels are shitty psuedo 3d platforming bullshit for casuals
>stupid segments where you float around on the blue thing
>if at any point you're shit enough at the game that you manage to die 3 times in a row it gives you a "win the level" trump card just to ruin the difficulty further

3D World continued the Super Mario Galaxy trend of levels just floating in an empty void. At least the Galaxy games had the excuse of being in outer space, but 3D Land/world decided to throw a lot of atmosphere out of the window and tried to be too much like the NSMB games (which are bland in of themselves). Even then the NSMB games weren't just platforms in space.

So glad that Odyssey is bucking that trend and returning to SM64/Sunshine style levels
