I could live with the gameplay if the story was better but even that leaves a lot to be desired. Then I found out that lots of crucial plot items are in the concert and stage play scripts that you have to read fan translated pastebins in order to understand which ruined it even further.

I wanted to like this game, I really did. I think it was more fun back in the early beta stages when they still had hunger and temperature mechanics as part of the normal difficulty. Exploring planets was a lot more interesting because you were free to do anything as long as you planned around the hazards. Now you just research a linear as fuck tree of upgrades that lock you out of exploration until you get them.

I bought it because I liked Witcher 2 (and still do) and people said it Witcher 1 was great after a bit.
For the record I love Witcher 3 too and it's one of my most played games, even if the combat is wank.
The issue is 1's gameplay is so fucking awful I can't push past it for the better aspects.

Collectively around 10 playthroughs from everytime the game went through a major update. I barely made it 6 hours in in each. I had high expectations when I first bought and this game continued to disappoint throughout the years. Keep in mind that they've stuffed in so much fluff at this point that it takes more than 2 hours to get to the actual game now, and when I decided to give a chance after its 1.0 update, it took me longer than the refund period to actually realize that it's fundamentally terrible.

I don't feel it was bad, just not the same feeling as the earlier games, but you have to be a fucking Cheesesperger to defend Resident Evil 1 as a masterpiece because trying to play it again now is like tying to slowly pull all my pubes out in order, the controls are so hard to get used to again, and the voice acting/FMV is some of the worst shit I've ever seen.
Being a Resident Evil fan requires you to completely accept the trashy parts, but even so 5 and 6 just jumped the fucking shark for me
