They manage to release neat tech demos every once in a while but have failed to show they can actually produce fun or performant gameplay.

The 3.0 release dropped the "new netcode" that is supposed to fix the framerate being tied to the network performance server side. This same netcode is also pretty key to letting them deliver all the shit they promised.

Honestly, even from an optimistic point of view, SC development has not been looking very good for a while.

Bought hollow knight and liked it and I paid for bloodstained and I'm sure I'll like it as much as the demo which was fantastic.

Very few metroidVanias will be able to compete with hollow knight but I'm still going to have fun collecting all the shards in bloodstained.

Oh yes, lighting and new/updated textures will surely fix it. The only screenshots I can find are of about the same quality, anything else is concept art. There are so few, if any, instances of "oh it isn't finished yet" that ended well. In fact, this shit does remind me of an incredibly similar situation with MN9.
Ultimately it won't be a big deal if the game itself is really good, but such poor quality rarely speaks well for the rest of the game.

I didn't notice it until you mentioned, but from what I saw in slow motion was that it cuts to standing pre-walk stand pose if still moving, otherwise it does the full landing animation. Perhaps adding a "falling but still in motion" animation would be necessary. As for the tiles, the procedural generation was made for this in particular.

That's much better than the still. the biggest issue is the lighting. the other weird issue is 3d on 2.5d. the styles don't mesh perfectly, but I think it could be fixed with lighting on the character. As a whole, the artwork could do better with more contrast between light and dark.
