Sure, there's criticisms - the encounter rates are to high, the ship battles take too long, the characters are too cliche, the music quality drops between versions and so on.

I want to visit different unique cultures and recruit shipmates to help me build my vessel. Skies of Arcadia is a fairly mediocre experience as far as JRPG go. Its strongest point is a great feeling of adventure but enormous encounter rate on world map shits it up extremely hard. Besides, combat is extremely barebones and easy to break thanks to null physical/magical abilities, ship battles, while cool looking, are piss easy and barely require any tactic and overall there's really not an awful lot in a ways of character building.

Don't misunderstand, i still liked the game, but it's way too flawed.

Couldn't get into that. The frog log was annoying and doesn't carry over. A lot of the mobs are super rare and the hunting log also doesn't carry over in NG+. Only the costumes seem to carry over.
I also didn't like the idea of traditional wooden ships in space.

What was all of your favorite part of the game?
For me it was the uninhabited island and then the shenanigans trying to reunite the gang. The complete shift in setting and atmosphere was great. Vyse was such an alpha male whilst being stranded, I get the feeling he could have lived for years on that island alone.

Nothing can really give you the full experience, especially the world map
But of recent ones, I was really impressed by how Trails of Cold Steel handled it
It's two games (so far), where the first is somewhat bland school life with a focus on NPC interactioni and worldbuilding
And then 70 hours later, in the second game, you get an airship and all of the student NPCs you interacted with in the first game make up your crew
The adventure factor isn't quite Skies-tier, and the locations are nothing to write home about, but it's pretty comfy how you have a ship crewed by bros you spent all that time learning about, and the ship itself feels Delphinus-tier to explore
The main problem with that series is that it takes a lot of patience to get into, which a lot of /v/ doesn't have, and of that particular arc the protagonist is pretty much universally hated

For scratching the adventure itch, though, Grandia does that really well
its sequels less so but still somewhat

I think my favorite moment in the game is when the crew decides to avoid enemies by doing something no one had tried: Proving the world was round. They hadn't brought up the question yet in the game, making the claim and controversy a pretty nice plot twist. I think that moment, along with the Uninhabited Island scenes, was what cemented Skies of Arcadia as the paragon of "adventure" to me.

It's fucking disappointing as hell that Vyse/Skies stuff doesn't show up in other Sega games more often. I bought Valkyria Chronicles and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed just because Vyse was in them.

I'm hoping that with the recent Sega restructuring and their plan to 'revive major IPs' involves seeing Skies of Arcadia stuff again. Even just as easter eggs in other games. I don't need a whole new game or whatever (HD digital release would be nice though), I just want to keep the memory alive.

One thing that always bugged me about SoA was Glacia and how....empty it was.
I mean, if you compare it to Ixa'taka or Yafutoma, those places had towns, ship battles, dungeons, loads of stuff. But Glacia's nothing.
