I mean they have the Jeeps and Stuart light tank models laying all around the map, how hard would it be to animate the wheels and put them in the game. Same for RS2 with the M113 being all over the place. Shouldn't be hard to put in the game as a drivable vehicle.

I played them in 64 mode during the beta and it sucked. The tickets were balanced for 16 players and the map was sized for it so it was constant grenade spam. The matches were like 5 minutes because you'd run out of tickets in 2.

I haven't played Rising Storm in a very long time so I can't say I remember. I don't blame them for not finishing them though. Like I said the maps weren't fit for tanks.

Anyhow I googled a bit, I guess I misremembered. There wasn't a US tank nearly as completed as the Ha-Go. The Jap tank was almost finish with it's interior missing and I'd imagine not balanced, but for the most part it's there. There also was Bazookas that was nearly finished as well, but pointless due to no tanks so they gave up. There's mods out to play with them just google rising storm hago/bazooka and you'll see videos.

What's surprising is that there were quite a bit of things cut out from Rising Storm.

It would be a lot of effort for very little reward. The majority of maps in RS are neither large enough to necessitate an automobile nor do they have much drivable terrain. A jeep would be absolutely shredded by the Jap LMGs. The devs bothered adding half-tracks to RO2 and they're only used to drive straight into the enemy spawn before being destroyed. They're also only featured on one map that receives any significant playtime.

Actually I'm pretty sure they are just giving it away to boost RS2 sales as well. That's like a demo, and you must buy RS2 to get all the future updates.

One of their future plans is to port all the RO2/RS content to RS2. All these people who get RO2 for free now are potential customers for RS2. Pretty smart move on Tripwire's part for once.

Oh fucking awesome, I hope so. I hadn't played RO2/RS1 in a while, and after playing the RS2 beta last weekend, and going back to RO2/RS today I was surprised at how much the graphics have aged. Not that it matters at all but I didn't realize how much RS2 improved that till I went back.

Having a taxi system with a Jeep or half track in the rear lines would be a bit more realistic than having people spawn on a SL. Have a designated driver and just do Jeep runs. Sure it might get shredded but you stay on the rear lines and you have an MG on top anyways for stragglers.

Opposite for me. The AK was a pea shooter with shit recoil, but the M16 was a beast for me. Sure it sounds like a pea shooter but I was getting easy kills.

Tank gameplay is trash on RO2, but only because they didn't keep it simple like on Ostfront. They tried way too hard to make the thing as visually scrupulous as possible.

I saw it coming as soon as they announced the content of HoS. They are a fairly small studio, trying so hard to model and animate all the insides of a tank. Sounded stupid to me back then and then they bragged their tank were so realistic it took them months to make a single one.

Actually I think the difference is how SL is selected. Instead of being a class, it's whoever creates the squad.

But Vietnam Squad leaders can make tunnels which is pretty cool. I am not sure how US SL's work yet though, they now have purple smoke which acts differently to regular, and pointmen now have regular smoke. So I think US squadleaders are less important, but still mobile spawn points but now you aren't smokemen at the same time. So there isn't as much responsibility on SL's now for America.

Infantry ran slower, were less nimble and tired more quickly in RO1. Many of the maps were also more larger, sparser and more open than RO2 maps. Transport vehicles were much more useful in that case since it would prevent a long and tedious run.

When you had a competent and communicative team, those giant combined arms maps were great. If you didn't, it was a frustrating waste of 40-60 minutes. Having corporals or whatever driving around mobile spawn points is one of those things that are great in theory, but don't always shape up well. Like forcing commanders to only use radiomen or the mortarman/forward observor dynamic from Carpathian Crosses/Darkest Hour.

For the record, I think the transport choppers in RS2 are going to be pretty useless, as well. Judging by current map design, at least.

The server I played on for RO2/RS actually did turn off the kill feed. It was much more interesting that way.

I kinda agree with him that hearing a plonk when you get a headshot and such, while satisfying, kinda spoils it since you know he's dead and now you can focus elsewhere. It would be more interesting to be kept guessing.

I think the same for the little markers that friendly units now have. I know it's because now we have custom get ups so everyone looks different, but those little markers highlighting allies when you mouse over them are just too easy.

Can you just place your artillery anywhere you want? Or do you need a mark put there by someone to call in an air strike.

I should one day play Commander myself, but I don't want to fuck up a game and usually someone else gets it before me or we have someone really good from a previous game who's doing it.

Why is winning and losing so fucked up in this game? So many games the enemy ticket has been zero and we are capping the last point and suddenly we lose. And then occasionally we have a game where we get BTFO'd the entire map and then win out of nowhere.

I only play modded classic servers where everyone is gud as fuck. Dunno why but my team always seems to lose right on the brink of victory. Could not tell you how many times we completely depleted enemy reinforcements only for the game to end as we were taking the last cap.

I'm europoor so I only play on the 40-1 campaign server pretty much. I don't think it's pubstomping, almost all of the players there are really high level. But I have 200 hours in RO2 and almost all of it is on the MG42, I got pretty good at being a machine gunner.

I am an Aussie and play on the Awesome mode server, which I don't think is there anymore but it was just classic modded to be even more hardcore. I mostly played Rifleman with K98k though occasionally went Elite Rifleman, SL or MG gunner too.

I talked to one of the Tripwire map makers a couple years back at GDC. Was a cool guy other than that I made him sad that I told him I hated fallen fighters since he made it. He mentioned working on maps for RS2 and that they were going to be smaller. Couple years later, the maps are small and I dislike it.

For the Allies, if you play Axis you're fucked. C is right in front of the Allies spawn and they just camp the Axis from it.

The only hope Axis has of winning Fallen Fighters is to capture C and hold it during the last minute of the game, assuming they haven't run out of tickets.

The Australian community for RO2 only really died around the end of last year, which is pretty good considering that the game was released in 2011.
Up until that point you could always get a full server on the weekends and often during the week too. The good server and most of its regulars have already moved to RS2 during its beta waves so you'll be able to play for a long time.

You should only play aggressively at moments of opportunity, when you actually have an advantage over the enemy (they're blinded by smoke/getting hit by arty/when you have the drop on them etc). Playing aggressively 100% of the time in these games is retarded man, you will just get killed over and over again.

I had a lot of fun with Japanese machine gunner class for a while, Type 96/99 are solid fun, but than I realised autism isn't fun, and switched to rifle so I can be up in the front and banzai some kids.
