It did happen in the first two months. It was the "short supply" that nintendo repeated with the wii u and switch, that made hype swell so high. There were lines of hundreds waiting for wiis on release date because of the perfect level marketing showing off entire families playing together.

The wii basically turned into a dust magnet after the novelty of boomblox and wii sports ran out. You can find software sales for the wii i'm sure, and they're fucking miniscule. It's a damn shame because the fucking thing doesn't even support regular dvds, unless you mod an early early model. Netflix even had to have a special disc.
