Why did Toby Fox write the story for all monsters to get along no matter what despite the fact that each one has a different shape, type, sex, and color. We've seen racism among humans, there's no reason to believe such differently assorted creatures in one place wouldn't attempt to vie for power, or separate themselves based on what kind of monster they are. We don't even see them really have a desire to fuck outside the dogs.

Y'know how Toriel scolds Asgore for not crossing the Barrier after getting one human SOUL? I'm not so sure that one would have been enough to protect Asgore. Think about it: a mod of angry villagers, presumably not that well-armed, we're able to beat Adriel to death when he only had one. Maybe the reason Asgore waited to collect seven before crossing the Barrier was for his own safety. Plus, with that kind of firepower on your side, you could easily crush the humans and secure a peaceful surface world for monsters.

However I really think that at least half the blame should be put on Torial, she completely abandoned him, she probably could have stopped him but instead ran away and painted him as some sort of evil monster. I understand what Undertale was going for. I've corresponded with Fox about this via e-mail. He made an extremely humorous feel good game (except for the genocide ending). But he failed to do anything truly meaningful with the game's scenario and narrative. It could've easily been a reflection of our own world and a commentary on it with just some changes to how NPCs interact with one another. It irks me to see missed potential. Like I said it's a good game otherwise. I'm glad it exists. Actually fuck the Mettaton segments.

Being a king means taking responsibility for your subjects. Their actions, their crimes, their punishments.

Toriel loves the respect and attention she got from being queen, but when the time came to take responsibility for the anger of the entire monster kingdom at the death of her son, she rejected it and ran away, instead deciding that all other monsters were evil and didn't deserve her enlightenment.

And even at the end of the pacifist route, she still couldn't accept any responsibility, instead blaming Asgore for everything.

Asgore really didn't do anything wrong when you consider the fact that, based on the intro, monsters had way more casualties in the war than humans did. Killing a couple dumb human kids who fell in a whole, really isn't so bad in comparison. Also Asgore is the king, and doing whatever he can do to give his people hope doesn't make him evil, he's just doing his duty.
He's probably the monster that's most like a human in the way he thinks.

To this day I still wonder if I'd have gotten more mileage out of the game if I did whatever I felt like instead of sticking to true pacifist in my first run. As reference, I went into the game completely blind, despite having played it a few months ago.
