Depends.
SNES have "better" sound chip since it have more channels to work with, but the sound itself sounds plastic and mudded with a faulty Highpass filter or something like that.
SEGA sounds clearer but is much simpler so it's down to how they make the music.

Kinda like the difference between GBC and GBA where Pokémon games sounds better on the GBC because of that clear tone sound.

Examples are also shown in NES vs SNES where SMB3 have better SFX than SMA version of SMB3 because of the sound direction they went for was just that bad in SMA.

Between Thunderforce and anything Yuzo Koshiro, the Genesis doesn't really have much going for it as far as music goes save for a couple tunes here and there compared to the SNES, which has far more catchy tunes that most people can recall off the top of their heads

Perhaps they're more catchy because that's what I grew up with (and what's catchy is subjective), but even later on I still found it hard to find commercial songs on the Genesis that I actually enjoyed.

I don't see how this can be, the heavier notes on Genesis always sound compressed and distorted out the ass to me. The best Genesis tracks make more varied use of the chipset sound that it admittedly excels at beyond what any other system can do natively, but as far as pound-for-pound tracks go, I think SNES takes the cake.

I know you didn't just shit on Boomer Kuwanger, that track sounds like trumpets heralding a bunch of cars crashing into each other at mach speed and I love it. Anyhow, the quality of the tracks you posted is insanely good, and so is that soundtrack to the point where I stopped listening to sample and started genuinely enjoying the music. Genesis compositions can sound pretty different depending on what instruments you use.
The Thunder Force IV instruments go well to any rocking soundtrack though, here's an example from a saturn game (and it's a suite, the second part of the song is in Thunder Force V)

All depends on what your musician is good at.
If he can find very good sounding samples and arrange em into a nice music AND have the space to use a bunch of high quality samples, the snes will shine.

Now if you got a synth god, able to tweak every register of the yamaha synth and do shit like mid note synth adjust, then you get the sega genesis to shine.

But if you can't into either, genesis will sound like a robot fucking a grinder, and snes will sound like a cheap chinese sound toy inside in a dishwasher.
