First Drakengard game has a good story if you can get past the absolutely atrocious gameplay. (The air combat is passable at least). Second Drakengard game has a worse story but improved gameplay, it's safe to skip over this one. Drakengard 3 has terrible fucking performance issues, the story is alright.

Nier is pretty good, pick it up if you can.

To answer your question, I personally like Automata the most out of all of the games.

First Drakengard is Berserk-ripoff, you basically see the same Eclipse from Berserk with the same "demons" and the same "god hand". Even the synopsis is the same - muh evil gods are hating the humanity.

I'm not blaming anyone but you can see the budget and they didn't do much with it.

Zero as a character and the story gets stuck in your head, meanwhile Automata is just a bunch of marketing and was massively forced by community itself because 2B was presented so well.


tl:dr Drakengard in itself is better. Automata is the Call of Duty Infinite Warfare of the series, bad and selling for wrong reasons.

Automata has best combat of all the games.
Draken guard 1 and 2 had the worst game play.

Entirely true, the "banter" in Automata was more interesting due to its implications than enjoyable.

Either way, Nier's banter was a really unique thing, first of all because Jamison and O'brien are good voice actors who worked really well together - japanese banter is bland in comparison and thats the "original creator's vision", plus its two grown men ("types") talking, not a a 15 year old kid.

Automata basically had no chance to live up to the same thing because as much as I love Taro's games, Nier Gestalt was a fluke.

Gameplay wise Automata is the best hands down.

Nier ranges from really meh to okay/good gameplay wise.
Drakengard was a mistake.
Drakengard 3 was a bit better.
